Not too shabby for the price
This place is as advertised (on the inside) The neighborhood which I had no problem with cause I’ve grown up in similar cities. Is not ideal for the average person and probably would be uncomfortable but then again this is D.C. chocolate city so it’s expected. The house is very clean and well put together. My only fault with the property was entering and leaving.. Tight alleyway and very small carport not a garage! The owners live upstairs the 2 units hallways are connected and they have a dog‼️‼️ Dog Barking and movement upstairs kind of felt like we didn’t have to much privacy. Other than those minor things This property is actually a steal and it’s located 15 minutes from the White House and all the other attractions in D.C.
On a scale of 1-10 I would give this property a 7
Not Safe! Don't Stay Here! Scary as Heck!
My family (wife and two kiddos) planned a trip to DC. We booked this location even after reading the reviews which some said was a little sketchy after dark but overall it was safe and had high ratings. When we arrived at the location, we were shocked...this was the hood. It was a scary place. This property was the only halfway nice looking home in the neighborhood. In the immediate vicinity of this property was a motorcycle that had been stripped and left in the road, vehicles with windows knocked out and trash everywhere. We had gotten instructions to go to the front door and knock and the owner's mother would greet us. As we pulled up on a very tight dead end road, there was numerous people outside who just stopped in their tracks and stared at us...giving us the feeling that we were not supposed to be there. We knocked on the door and we could hear movement inside but no one answered. I called the property owner but got no answer. We texted her and waited a while but got no response.
We knew the entrance was in the back so we ventured in our minivan down and extremely narrow dead end alley to the back of the property. The alley was so narrow that my side mirrors were striking tree limbs and trash on the way down. When we got to the back, we found the garage door. After several attempts to get the code to work, the door opened, but there is no garage...just a door!
We then went into the property and notice bars on all the windows and doors. The inside of the property was great and as advertised. The outside was awful with mold growing on the north side, had unmowed grass and tall weeds. We ended up staying the night but I did not sleep as I guarded the door all night. About 4 hours after we had arrived, I got a return text from the owner and was in broken English and almost seemed like an automated text.
We left the next morning asap and did not stay for our remaining booking. We texted the owner and requested a refund. She texted that her ad reference that it was a "diverse" neighborhood (which I guess is a code word for the hood and not a mixture of people, backgrounds, ideas etc.) and we should have known. She stated she would refund one night but she never did. I called HomeAway twice but they would not help either saying it was between us and the owner. There was also a pitbull issue and men on bikes hanging outside the garage door. DON’T STAY HERE! NOT SAFE!
Did not feel safe staying at property
The property was grossly misrepresented in the listing and I had to make other arrangements. I sent a message requesting a refund two days ago and have not heard back... I was told there would be a garage and made the assumption based on the pictures that this was in a good neighborhood. Neither was true. Upon arrival I was unable to find any form of parking on the street and there was no garage at all. In addition to this the street was incredibly seedy, with at least two cars with broken out windows parked on it and the house directly across from this property had a freshly broken window. I did not feel safe staying here and ultimately had to pay an exorbitant amount just to find a safe place to stay last minute in DC. I am extremely dissatisfied with this service and would like a refund
You arrived at the property but you did not stayed or get inside the property .
About the garage yes there is one and the access is in the back thought the alley
The property is not misrepreseted and the pictures did not true the problem was you found a diversity neighborhood unpleased to your eyes .
You should read more about DC as well the others guest reviews in order to make your reservation. I had not problem to refund you and I don't know why VRBO allowed your review but this is good to future guests understand that the neighborhood in DC are changing for better but majority are blacks but does not meaning unsafe .
Nice apartment. A few tips. Your car is parked behind the house in an enclosed yard. We left our car, would leave down back alley and walk to free trolley stop, take free trolley to Union Station, go out and find free DC Circulator bus sign, red sign. 4 different lines running for free.
