Comfortable, Convenient, Private
Stonehouse is a roomy, comfortable home on a beautiful, duck-filled lake, with easy access to Many Glacier, St. Mary and Waterton Lakes National Park, just across the border in Canada. The home is nicely decorated with substantial furniture and local artwork. We really appreciated the large picture window with western views of the park's mountains and stunning sunsets. We loved gathering around the wood burning stove on cool mornings and evenings, and on the east facing deck with a glass of wine on warmer nights.
The house was well stocked with everything we needed. Beds and pillows were really comfortable.....VERY important! We were a group of 2 couples, so we each had a floor to ourselves, which was great, but there was plenty of room for much larger groups. David was always available and willing to answer questions and handle any issue in a timely manner.
We visited the third week of September when local businesses were preparing to close for the season. Grocery shelves at the local stores had basic supplies, but we discovered The Leaning Tree, a short distance down the road, for great breakfasts. Also, you can't miss Two Sisters Restaurant, painted bright purple, for dinners. We also did some cooking in the very well equipped kitchen at Stonehouse. In short, we felt very at home.
If you are looking for a comfortable, convenient and private place to stay near Glacier, with an accommodating
owner, this is it!
Thank you again for staying with us and we're so glad the StoneHouse worked out well for your Glacier Park stay. I hope you visit us again soon! - David
OMG - What a great experience!
Highly recommended. We absolutely loved our time. Here's some reasons why:
1) It's a wonderful and quiet property with a terrific unobstructed view of the mountains. The sweeping vistas make the sunrises and sunsets truly memorable (and photogenic).
2) The main living room and woodstove made our evenings very enjoyable.
3) The beds are very comfortable and we all (six adults) slept well.
4) The kitchen is well equipped. We had just about anything we needed for the various meals prepared during the week.
5) This Duck Lake location made our trips and hikes far easier than our prior stay on the southwest side of the park. We made our initial grocery trip in Browning, but there's adequate supplemental grocery supplies nearby in Babb and St. Mary's.
6) David was extremely personable and responsive. (BTW - check out his music too. Very enjoyable).
For your planning purposes. There are two bedrooms and one full bathroom upstairs. The master has direct access to the bathroom. The second upstairs bedroom has a nice queen bed as well as two bunk beds at the end of the room. Lots of space. There is another bedroom in the basement area (with windows for fresh outside air if you are so inclined). It has it's own full bathroom too. In the basement there's also another sitting area with a couch/bed option if you need even more sleeping space. However, the reality is that you'll likely spend your time upstairs to enjoy the magnificent views.
We only had one minor issue. The basement was a little musty when we first arrived (the building is well sealed for the Montana winters), but that dissipated. Not a real issue but noted. Plus, we were out enjoying nature too much to let it bother us.
Bottom Line: I think this is perhaps the best VRBO property available east of the mountains. Easy to see why it stays booked up so far ahead.
OMG - what a great review! Thank you again for staying with us and taking time to write about your experience. If you are ever out this way again, please let us know. We'd love to have you back! David & JJ
Dirty home in great location.
A big disappointment. What is missing in the description of this property and the reviews is that the house is not clean & the bathrooms are disgusting. Shower enclosures caked with grime & soap scum. Shower curtains stained. So much bacteria, they look like they could walk away on their own. Did not use second bathroom because it is in cold, barely finished basement. Thought that by paying more for a house, rather than campground accommodations, we could avoid sharing bathrooms with others, but in fact, we shared with the dozens who came before us. Not sure why more reviews did not mention this. We really would have appreciated the heads up. 2 stars: 1 for proximity to east side of GNP & 1 for setting & views, but overall cannot recommend.
We are very sorry that you did not enjoy our property. It would have been helpful, however, if you would have contacted us immediately regarding your disappointment. We are confident that we could have worked together to find an amicable solution the situation. We will work to make our property better in the future and appreciate your honest feedback.
We just returned from a very memorable 2 weeks in Glacier, one week staying on the east side at this property. There is not much to choose from in the way of rental homes for larger families, so I was initially excited to find the Stonehouse and came with high expectations due to the high price and lovely images. David's communication was great. The sunrise and sunset views from the property were awesome. Kitchen and living areas were perfect for our family of 5, and we appreciated the wood stove and firewood each evening after long days of hiking GNP. Bathroom cleanliness was below our standards. The downstairs was a musty smelling basement covered up with air freshener plug-ins. We suffered through 4 am mouse activity in the basement bedroom, and although David texted that he came out with more traps, he could not stop the persistent rodent from keeping our son and daughter-in-law awake. The washer setting had to remain on hot per house directive, so we were manually filling it with cold water. I understand the house is a work in progress, but I was hoping for better value. Overall, I am somewhat happy with our choice, but for the location rather than the accommodation.
We are terribly sorry that you had this unfortunate experience with our property. We will work to resolve the problems as quickly as possible.
