Comfortable and lovely house in a great spot!!
Excellent view and location on harbor. We enjoyed the private dock immensely and easy proximity to Camden and Rockland. Very quiet and peaceful house and neighborhood. House was very spacious and such a charming historic home and very clean and well kept. We have rented many houses in the past and we were very comfortable in this house. Thank you Elena for trusting us with your lovely home. We’d love to come back again next year!
The location of this small mid-coast town as well as the location of Community House make it a perfect place to enjoy Maine. The architecture of the house, the warm inviting antiques within, the lovely gardens, the sailboats on the water, the nice friendly neighborhood all made our stay at Community House a BLESSING.. Thank you Elena
Perfect vacation spot!
We recently stayed at The Old Community House in Rockport. It was the ideal vacation spot. It was not only in a wonderful quaint neighborhood with gorgeous homes with beautiful flowers and gardens but it also had a harbor view!
We enjoyed the walks through the nearby woods with the harbor on the other side of the trees called Beauchamps Point. You can find a spot to sit on the rocks and watch the boats in the harbor with your morning coffee...awesome!
The house itself was a step back in time, a wonderful kitchen (loved the old fashioned sink) fully stocked with everything you need, a charming vintage bathroom and a very comfortable bedroom.
It's a convenient place to stay for day trips into other towns to see lighthouses, etc. Oh and don't miss eating at the Graffam Bros. lobster shack, they have the
best loaded lobster rolls you will eat in Maine! We also thoroughly enjoyed the Pork Belly sandwich at Shepherds Pie in walking distance of the house, you won't be sorry!
Thanks again Elena for a great vacation!
Thank you for the beautiful words and thanks for staying with us !
Just a correction: the guest is referring to the Middle House, with the vintage kitchen and bath .
Labor Day Weekend
My wife and I found this wonderful spot in Rockport, and were treated like old friends. We had a wonderful time, and would definetely stay again if in the area! What a beautiful historic home, not updated wiht the latest chain store "improvements". The location is incredible, minutes from Camden and just a few more to Rockland. Both towns offer great restaurants and shopping. We woke the first morning to find the port fogged in, and watched as the fog lifted and the sun came out. A beautiful way to start a day!
My husband and I stayed at the Community House in early September. It was more house than we needed, but the apartment was already rented so we chose the house since we wanted to be on the water. We're so glad we did. The house is beautiful - warmly appointed and very comfortable. The huge porch was a very relaxing spot morning and evening. It was a joy to wake up each morning to the lobster boats going out for the day and to enjoy the sight of the sloops and sailboats from the yard. We took morning bike rides on back roads to Camden and enjoyed the various architectures and stone masonry along the way. This was a beautiful spot, and we were looked in on by the home's caretakers to make sure all was right. Highly recommended. We hope to return.
Great Location, But There are Issues Here
This house is in a fabulous location. There are great views to Rockport Harbor from every room, as advertised. The lawn is wonderful, and sweeps right down to the water's edge. We really enjoyed relaxing in the plastic lawn chairs and watching the sunsets. It is an easy walk to town, even into Camden. Be sure to have dinner at the Shephered's Pie, just 5 minutes away by foot. There is a spacious and well laid out kitchen with all the amenities you could need for cooking. It was great having the washer/dryer available to us.
If you look at the photos on this site, you will note that there is no photo of the living room or the bathroom. This is probabaly because both of these areas of the house are SERIOUSLY below par. There is not a single comfortable seat in the living room. The "sofa" is a tiny settee about the size for a 5 year old. When I did sit on it (well, the edge of it and I am a normal size person) all I felt was the lumps of the springs. The side chairs are also tiny. We spent all 9 nights sitting on the straight back dining room chairs. We may be visiting our chiropractor when we get home.
But, worse, is the upstairs bathroom shower. It is a clawfoot tub with a shower installed. You are not allowed to use ait to take a bath due to plumbing issues, so you must shower. The tub floor is VERY slippery, and both of us fell in this tub, one of us seriously hurting his back. There are NO grab bars or handholds at all, and the tub is away from the walls, so there is not even a wall to grab onto to break a fall. After our intial falls (during our first showers), we took turns standing guard and holding on to each other when bathing.
It is too bad that the safety/comfort issues got in the way for us, because otherwise, we had a fabulous time in the home and in the villlage. The owner needs to refurnish the living room and install a shower stall. She has really put herself at risk of liability because of the shower safety issues. We hope that Elena will take care of these things, becasue otherwise, it is a great vacation spot!
A new shower stall was added to the masterbath in 2011, nicely tiled with white tile and marble. Now two people could shower in the same bathroom , in the same time.
There is also a new large armchair/recliner in the living room, the fabric blends with the vintage look.
