Perfect location to explore Paris on foot or via metro.
Elisabeth’s apartment in the Marais district provided all the amenities we needed during our two week winter stay in Paris. There is a full kitchen where we prepared most of our breakfasts after purchasing fresh baguettes in the morning from the bakery at the end of the block and fruit/vegetables/eggs from the nearby grocery store. The Laundry facilities were great. We put the wash cycle on quick wash, (number 13) then hung our clothes in the bathroom to dry. (Or we would hand wash small items in the bathroom sink and they would be dry by morning when hung near the bathroom radiator.) It was nice to have two toilets. The toilet in the bathroom, as others have mentioned, can be precarious to access if you are not steady on your feet. You must climb up the granite steps to the bathtub and the toilet is just beyond the tub.
My husband and I had no problems with the sunken tub, but again, you must know your physical limitations.
The bedroom has a firm queen bed which we liked for our 50+ year old backs. We felt well rested every morning. The mattress is smooth, without lumps and it is not hot or suffocating.
If you are cold or want heavier covers, there are extra blankets in the bedroom closet. The Internet works great. (The very long password is case sensitive) There is a large TV which we did not watch, but does work.
Beyond the apartment there is a wonderful bakery out the door to the left and at the end of the block. The grocery store is out the door to the right and just around the corner.
There are many restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Good ones!
The new Opera house is at the Bastille metro stop, walking distance from the apartment. We were able to secure tickets to the ballet and enjoyed a magnificent performance.
We walked 7-9 miles/day because we wanted to see Paris. But you can easily access all the sites In the city of lights by the 3 metro stops nearby.
And when it’s time to return home, it takes 1 hour to travel by metro and RER to CDG airport. Walk to Saint Paul metro stop, (if you packed light) take metro from there to the Chatelet-Les Halles stop and connect to the RER B line to CDG.
I would not hesitate to stay at Elisabeth’s apartment on a return trip to Paris. This was our first trip to Paris, and the best vacation my husband and I experienced together....and we both agree it was largely due to the location and amenities that were at our disposal in and around Elisabeth’s Marais apartment.
Thank you so much Alexandra for your comment. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at home. We try our best to satisfy our guests. Most of them are current friends. I hope to see you again!
Just what we were looking for!
We were very happy with our one-week stay here. Elisabeth the owner was very helpful and responsive, as was Theresa, who was on site to help if we needed. The shower was a bit tricky to navigate as indicated, but we got used to it fairly quickly. The location was perfect, with a cafe right next door and tons of other shops, cafes, restaurants within a couple of blocks. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Paris.
Thank you Robin, we try our best.
Please come again , a bottle of champagne will wait for you! 😉
Wonderful Stay in Marais
The apartment is lovely. The location near Place De Voges is great.
The apartment is very clean, bed is very comfortable. Getting into the shower could be a bit tricky for older visitors. I have stayed in 10 different apartments in Paris and this is by far my favorite! When I return I will definitely book this apartment again.
Thank you Susan! You were a very pleasant guest and we tried our best to satisfy you.
Charming home base for exploring Paris!
Looking for a fabulous pied-à-terre in Paris? Stop looking—this place is great!
Ideally set up for two people, Elisabeth's apartment easily accommodated my two tween daughters and me while on a four-day culture trip to Paris. We arrived at night, which was both fortunate and unfortunate—unfortunate in that Paris's streets are harder to navigate than we're used to, and the looming darkness didn't make it easier for us to find our way; and fortunate in that we arrived just before dinnertime, and had plenty of cafe options just outside the door! Instead of cooking at least one meal in the darling kitchen, which was the plan, we made it a point to sample as many plates of duck confit as we could within a 3-block radius of the flat.
Thankfully, the kitchen was stocked with coffee and all of the attending items needed to make a good cup. Between that and a daily run to the grocery store around the corner, we were set for breakfast each day. Lucky for us as well, because we spent most of the days exploring the city, only coming back to soak in the luxurious bathtub and crawl into the firm, warm beds!
Getting to the various parts of the city is very easy by metro, as there are stops for the 1, 5, and 8 lines within a short walk. For a 20-30 min walk/metro ride, you gain access to the Louvre, Tuileries, Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, train stations, and more; slightly further afield are the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre. The end result is that the major tourist points in Paris are easily accessible by foot without staying in the center of it all.
Not that you're removed from the action, by any means! The Picasso Museum is a five-minute walk from the flat in one direction, the Place des Vosges a five-minute walk in the other, and the nightlife (not partaken of on this trip), architecture, galleries, restaurants, patisseries, shopping, etc., is interspersed at regular intervals all around. Stepping through the building's street entrance, however, feels like you're removed, as the heavy door shuts out most of the city sounds and the cobblestone walkway leads to a private, pleasant courtyard.
The guardian of the building is a friendly, helpful, and accommodating woman who made us feel welcome and safe, and I look forward to seeing her on our next trip!
The final bits:
- The beds are very comfortable! Plus extra blankets in the cupboard
- The bathtub is to die for and the water hot
- The bathtub has a good handrail; be careful when going up the steps
Thank you so much Lynn for your complete comment and your appreciation. You are welcomed with your daughters next time! Merci!
