Lack of communication. Not clean! Uncomfortable. Would not recommend.
I have used Homeaway a few times and this was by far the worst rental I've encountered. It began with lack of communication. 24 hrs prior to my arrival and no check in instructions. I messaged the host, no answer. Messaged again in the morning prior to my flight, no answer. I had to call Homeaway on the plane and they reached out to the host for me. By the time I landed, I had a message that said "call me and I will meet you at check in". Ok. I called and said my ETA from the airport was 15 min. He said he'd meet me there. I called again when I got there, he said he'd "be right down". I waited another 15 min before he showed up.
Finally made it to the unit and was immediately hit by the smell of smoke (this unit should be described as smoker friendly, so at least the non-smokers know what they are getting in to). It was also 83 degrees in the unit. The AC just blew warm air! I noticed there was ONE roll of tp (for 11 night stay). I called and asked the host about the AC and the tp. He brought me more tp and a roll of paper towels. And also said the AC works, it just needed time to run (which turned out to be bs, it never blew cold air). Upon further inspection, I discovered the floors were dirty, there was no hand soap, no hand towels, no dishwasher soap, no garbage bags, no coffee maker, ONE TOWEL provided for my stay, nowhere to hang my clothes because every closet was full to stuff; giant teddy bears, mannequins, and bags.... I ended up hanging my clothes on the back of the door. The dishwasher was filled with dishes and smelt terrible! While looking for hand towels, I found a cluster of some in a cabinet stuck together with the smell of mold coming from them. But the absolute worst part was the bed! Soooooo uncomfortable. I came to town on buisness and worked 12/hr days. All I needed to be satisfied was a comfy bed, a clean space, and AC that worked so I was able to sleep and I didn't find that here. I contacted the host to report some of the missing items and he said he would drop them off but I never heard from him again. The location itself has alot of condos and people and is pretty loud. Car alarms were going off all hours of the night and alot of police sirens nearby. My overall impression is that the host is new to Homeaway and doesn't understand the standards of cleanliness, communication and service. ALOT of changes are needed before he should rent out his place again.
