Thank you very much for your visit, for being such nice guests and for the excellent review ! We hope to see you again some other time . Até sempre !!
Far less than we expected
This is the first time using VRBO that we actually thought our vacation wouldn't happen. Our emails to the Property Mgr Margarida bounced back. Frantic texts a month before our arrival were not acknowledged. Finally my husband got through on the telephone line to Margarida. He gave her my email address and she promised to email the details. It was a week and a half later before I received the email, and we were in full panic by then.
Suffice to say we made it and had a lovely meet and greet with Margarida, who presented us with wine and cheese and bread. At the end of the meeting Margarida asked if she could have an another meeting with us on our last day to do basically an exit interview. We, all of us, found it to be an odd request.
Anyway, onwards. The owner (Ingrid) of the property we rented normally lives in this house. When you are renting it she stays in a house on the property, just down the lane way. What you need to know is that Ingrid will be popping by daily. She frightened the wits out of me twice. She's lovely, really she is, but I did not like the lurking around the property business.
Ingrid wanted us to leave the windows open so the house could 'breathe'. In hindsight it was not the best idea for the couple who was staying on the upper level. Their clothes and bedding were consistently damp.
I read it was misty in the mountains and it is. It's damp. We did light fires in the beautiful airtight fireplace in the living area. In hindsight, we should have ordered heat for the night time, which is an extra charge per day.
The piece de resistance was the toilet in the main floor bathroom not working. When I reported it to Ingrid she said she knew about the toilet and "It was a small thing."
And I suppose that's a good ending, because it was the small things ultimately that made it less than we expected.
Margarida told us to bring our own towels. Ingrid showed us towels for us to use that were in the garage. There were complaints about the mattresses, but the duvets were fantastic. It's a beautiful old property, but there was black mould where the stone wall met the ceiling. The pool is ice cold, but then again, so is the ocean.
The location for the four of us was ideal for Sintra and small towns. Cascai for the train into Lisbon was wonderful.
Dear Mrs. M, after reading yr feedback on yr stay with us, I have to say that I am very surprised, almost shocked by what you report, as before/during your stay you have never contacted me to complain about any of the mentioned subjects, and I never thought it was possible to turn our well intentioned service (as recognized by all the previous 5* ratings), into negative points ! Regarding a)poor communication through VRBO: as I was not receiving your messages, I do not understand how you would expect me to be able to answer to you ? And,why did you not call VRBO or me instead of getting in panic ? b)Check-out :so far, all our guests enjoyed our check-out service by the end of the stay which is aimed at surveying the stay as well as collecting information on any breakages and improvements to consider for future stays c) Ingrid, the 83yr lovely owner does not live in the house, as this is being used for short term rentals. She lives in Germany and only comes sporadically for some short periods of time to handle due property maintenance works and property documents. As it has not rained for the last months she helps the gardener to water some plants of the house in the morning, always asking politely our clients before. When she is in Portugal, we ask our clients if is ok for them that Ingrid stays at a small cottage at the end of the 4000m2 property, and you were informed as well and did not mind about that. In fact, you even invited Ingrid for dinner on the first evening at the house, which she refused d)We always suggest airing the house as we know this is the best way to get a good temperature and air indoors in this area and avoid dampness e) You showed Ingrid a clogged toilet which our handyman fixed on the same day f)I only ask clients to bring beachtowels , all other houselinen incl towels are provided. Ingrid showed you where you could find more towels in case you would like to change yours during your stay g)By refusing check-out procedure, you missed to show me which mattresses you did not like. FYI, all mattresses are above average, which most of all previous clients confirmed h)Mould-we apologize if the cleaning staff forgot to clean a mould stain and wonder why you did not report this during your stay if it bothered you i)Pool-I remember to say goodbye to your friend while he was inside the pool and having some wine. Do you think he also found the water"ice cold"? I do not understand the purpose of your review and regret it .
strongly recommend this villa
All communication with Margarida the property manager was efficient, rapid, and extremely helpful. Unusual requests by us were met with an incredibly helpful approach , even down to arranging a car tow when my car got stuck on a nearby hill. In short I cannot thank Margarida enough.
The villa itself is a lovely property the pool is fantastic. We have 6 and 4 year olds and the pool is lovely and "safe" with grass around rather than tiling as in most villas. The bedrooms offer stunning views of the coast and country and horizon. I loved waking up here to look and see what the weather was offering. The check in process was one of the most informative and helpfiuul I have come across with excellent guides written by the owner and manager to local restaurants . The hosts basically supplied all the info anyone could want in a succinct manner.
The villa is about a 10 minute drive from a supermarket , and the beaches are about 10 minutes drive . The location is pretty perfect.
Thank you for your visit, for being such nice guests and also for your excellent review on our service and property !! It is my pleasure to help our clients in the best way and I am very glad that the car tow could act so quickly . Thank you also for referring the help of our guides, which we prepare carefully for you ;) Até sempre !!
Wonderful tranquil villa with amazing views in a perfect location for exploring Portugal
This was a perfect week's get away for a family group of 6. There was plenty of space, comfort and amazing views. All the individual bedrooms were delightful and there were several additional sitting rooms, perfect for reading. The pool was well maintained and a decent size and the gardens were particularly beautiful and well-stocked. The location was excellent for Sintra and Lisbon, tucked away from the crowds yet within 30 minutes walk from the beach. Plenty of restaurants nearby and the cooking facilities in the property were excellent with a BBQ in a sun trap to one corner of the property. Beaches and the whole area was clean and free of litter. Margarida was very helpful and knowledgable and responded to any questions very swiftly. We would definitely recommend this property.
The villa was lovely as was the setting, however the microclimate
in Sintra meant that most days we had mist enveloping the grounds and had to travel down to Cascais to get sunshine.
Thank you for being such a nice family and for your positive comment on our house and setting. We regret that you were not lucky with the weather and hope that the sun will be by your side on your next visit to Portugal!
