A home away from home!

Very peaceful and relaxing. Loved sitting in the sun porch watching the ships pass by. We spent 3 weeks here and we were sad to leave at the end. Hosts were friendly and attentive. Will definitely return.

The Old surgery was just the right size for the two of us. It had everything we could possibly want. It was very clean and well appointed. John and Michele provided the historical information about the house which added a little something to our stay. The little garden is delightful, an oasis in the middle of town. We did most of our own meals so found O'Reilly's Independent Grocery a great place to get groceries. I hated to leave the lovely, cozy kitchen. The location of the house was perfect for the trips to family spread around that part of Ontario. We visited Fort Wellington which is about 4 blocks away - excellent look at history in the area. Brockville is not too far away and is also a great place for Upper Canada's history; nor is Upper Canada Village and the U.C. bird sanctuary. A nightly walk along the river was a great way to end the day. People in town were very friendly. The farmers' market has some very interesting vendors - both their products and their personalities. We would not recommend the place for someone with mobility problems as the stairs are rather steep but for all others, definitely a good affordable home away from home. Thank you, John and Michele, for looking after us so well and for making this historical building available to travelers.
