The perfect honeymoon getaway

5 of 5
We were a little hesitant to book this property considering the last review was almost two years prior but after communicating with John, the owner, we decided to go ahead and do it and we're so glad we did! If you are looking for night life and 5 star accommodations then look elsewhere. The house is not fancy and is in a quiet neighborhood but this was perfect for us because we were looking for quiet solitude for our honeymoon. We had the beach to ourselves most of the time and the snorkeling was phenomenal! We saw turtles twice and there were so many fish it was like swimming in a huge salt water aquarium. There were locals on the beach sometimes in the morning or evening. On Sunday there were several teens on the beach so if you don't want to share (much) we recommend you pay attention to the school schedule. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms which suited us well. There is not a clothes dryer as is listed but there are lines to dry clothing. The appliances in the kitchen appeared to be nearly new. We did not use the dishwasher. Any questions we had were addressed immediately. We did not have Wi-Fi at the beginning due to a system upgrade being completed, but we had Wi-Fi within a couple of days. Eric, the caretaker, met us upon arrival and was always available by cell phone. Beware of little crabs that will sneak into the entry and stairway at night. There are also cute little lizards. Just remember that this is the tropics and cockroaches are a part of that. We saw 3 during our 11 day stay, one we believe due to leaving something sweet on the counter so that was our fault. One evening we were greeted by a troop of green monkeys in the yard. We tried to get video but they were marginally cooperative. We woke one morning to evidence of a sea turtle coming onshore to lay eggs next to the house. If you are unsteady on your feet due to other than too many rum punches, you should step carefully along the pathway from the car to the house, especially if it has been raining. We had no problems at all but if you require walking assistance this may not be the ideal place for you. The north part of the island is close to many sights such as Animal Flower Cave, Hunte's Garden, St. Nicholas Abbey, the wild life reserve and Harrison's Cave. Groceries were nearby but the large superstore (like we have at home) was about 30 minutes away. We found it on the last day. We look forward to our next stay at Wilmar Cottage!

Fantastic accommodation!

4 of 5
The is really a fantastic and beautiful home away from home. The owners and staff did a fantastic job in making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Our chef and house keeping staff made all the Men feel welcomed and at home. We want to book this place for next year. Keep up the good work. John - President of Ruby Church of the Nazarene Men's Fellowship. God bless!
