Charming historic apartment in center of oldest Sarlat

5 of 5
My wife and I had the most magnificent time in Sarlat. Our perfectly appointed apartment was like a second home. We comfortably settled in with the help of the kind and energetic Emmanuel who was gracious and easy going. Our French language facility is poor at best so it helped immensely to have Emmanuel's expert help in English. The apartment is stocked with all needed supplies and the stone lined bath is the best of modern amenities giving this 500 year old apartment living over to 21st century comforts. Sitting in the evening and looking out over the rooftops kept us in more than one night. We were so comfortable and the apartment itself is such a great experience why go out? Of course a quick juant downstairs and then three meters to the left and POW! You're in the old town square. A huge advantage of this great place is the actual windows do not open into the square getting some of that nighttime reverie noise down. In my humbe opinion the photos of the place on VRBO don't fully capture the charm of this terrific spot. Without a doubt if you are lucky enough to get to stay here you will not be disappointed.

snow white cottage

5 of 5
Snow White Cottage This was the most amazing place to stay. It sits behind a large gate set off the road in a beautiful garden. The house is cut into a huge stone cliff which provides the atmosphere, and reality, of natural solidity along with peacefulness and security. It is an easy (few minutes) walk into the fabulous old center of Sarlat-la-Caneda. You enjoy a view of Sarlat from the garden and the patio. Maithe is a lovely hostess and although our French is limited we were able to communicate all that was necessary. She left us some wonderful jam that I believe she had made herself, and she made us feel extremely welcome. There are some stone steps up to the cottage and a flight of stairs to the 2 bedrooms. The upstairs has an effective air conditioner. Air conditioning did not seem necessary downstairs as the stone and breeze from the sliding glass door kept the place comfortable. The sliding glass door and several windows have retractable electric shutters which provide security and darkness which is wonderful. There is a powder room with sink and toilet downstairs and a full bath with tub upstairs (nice fluffy towels, too). The kitchen is well appointed including a dishwasher, washing machine, and a dryer (very rare in Europe we find). There is a TV with HDMI hookup in the living room, a few chairs, and a somewhat stiff couch. Everything is very clean and decorated in a charming country French chic style. The parking is next to the cottage and is shared by the businesses there (dentist and/or physical therapist?) It can be busy during the day, but we always found a spot. There is no one there at night or on the weekend. A Saturday stay is a must for market day. Going through the gate and turning into the lot are narrow passage ways better for a smaller car and an experienced driver. We dubbed the place Snow White cottage because we felt as if we had stumbled into a fairy tale. It was enchanting. We give it our very highest recommendation and would not hesitate to stay there again.
