Wonderful winter getaway in inviting warm mountain house

5 of 5
Our family of four enjoyed a February week's vacation at this Grantham NH house. It was the first time listed on VRBO so I had to rely on photos and communication with the owners without previous specific property reviews (although owner has several other NH properties listed with reviews). The owners were responsive and super helpful ahead of the trip in giving ideas for trip planning and restaurant recommendations. They went out of their way to welcome our young kids (8 an 10) and had a basket for them with toys and had gotten extra board games for their age group knowing we were coming. Very thoughtful. Also just the right amount of communication and privacy throughout the stay. Super responsive, never intrusive. The house was inviting, very private and quiet, cozy and personalized (felt like a home more than a rental). It has an interesting layout -three of the four bedrooms are on the entry level floor, and the kitchen, dining area and main living space are "up in the trees" on the upper floor. This upper floor is truly unique with high ceilings and wood beams and --so nice for the winter mountain house feel-- a gas fireplace which draws you into the comfy sofas for a drink by the fire and some TV. We spent our mornings and evenings upstairs and "retired for the night" downstairs to sleep in comfortable beds where each of the three bedrooms were equally comfortable and appealing with spacious closets. There's a fourth bedroom/loft upstairs which looked great but we wanted to sleep on the same level as our kids. While the house is not modern, it is very well taken care of, clean and well equipped. The first floor bathroom had a great shower and convenient laundry. Given the season, we didn't get to enjoy the outside porch deck nor the screened in porch, but we could see how wonderful that would be in the fall or spring/summer amid the trees so still getting sunlight so high up. The area has houses nearby yet is very quiet and private. Our kids loved walking out by the house in the snowy woods and discovering brooks etc... There are a number of cross country trails (we didn't try these as it was unusually warm so snow was melting) and a sledding hill. 20 minutes from Mt Sunapee where we skied --a great family ski mountain, 20 minutes to Hanover. Lovely restaurant and convenience store 5 minutes away, and bigger shopping options 20 minutes away. Overall a great vacation in a lovely warm and inviting home in the trees!

Really lovely

This is a large townhome in a rustic, well tended resort community located around a lake. There is a golf course and community center with a gym, indoor pool, small beachy area. It was warm when we were there and the lake was perfect for canoeing, kayaking and swimming and the woods perfect for hiking. The unit is beautifully appointed with a lot of thought given to young kids' fun and safety. There are three levels with distinct living areas so families can spend time together, or apart for napping or early risers. The kitchen has anything you need. The owners give access to their kayak, a lot of equipment for water and winter sports as well as toys and games for kids and adults. The rental manager was accommodating and easy to work with. We've stayed in many VRBO properties and this is definitely one of the best!
