Great adobe mountain getaway, short drive to town!

5 of 5
We came here for Christmas 2017 and our family loved this expansive adobe home perched on the edge of a canyon with an incredible view. Very comfortable for a party of seven: three couples and a single who was happy with the “extra” upstairs loft – open to the entrance way and not the living room, so reasonably private and quiet. Had the kiva fireplace going in the beamed family room and it was lovely and cozy! Kitchen well-stocked with everything we could think of, and then some – plenty big enough for multiple cooks. We watched the sunset from the balcony, which had a view to the west into the next valley – peaceful and secluded! Also appreciated the family of Jays who came to the feeder – should have brought my Sibley guide! Made us want to return during the spring or fall, when we could enjoy the view, eat meals at the family table outside AND toast our toes at the firepit at night. This is the kind of house you want to check into and then not go ANYWHERE….except that anywhere is Santa Fe! I wish we had had more time…All in all, we found it to be a great balance between desert solitude and 25 minutes to the main square. It was all good, but here are a few things to consider: The switchback road up was fine, pavement and gravel, even though we arrived in the dark. However, I can’t help but wonder how it would have been if there had been snow or heavy rain. Also, one of our party had trouble Uber-ing into town. The driver couldn’t find the house, or didn’t want to come up the road – not sure what the real problem was -- inexperienced driver, Google maps, or internal neighborhood street signs. We had a member of our party who was not comfortable drinking well water (for special medical reasons), and we did not arrive prepared with drinking water. I’m not sure if a Brita or similar filter system, or 5-gallon water dispenser in the kitchen, would also have done the trick. If there was something like this available, we missed it. The two bathrooms are really awesome, with a huge tiled whirlpool tub in the master bedroom, and a huge tiled shower in the guest bathroom. But with three couples and a single, there was a potty logjam during high-traffic times. Overall -- we had a wonderful time and none of our minor concerns would keep us from returning, or recommending to friends!

Excellent

It was a large house on a large property with 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms. The kitchen was spacious and had everything that we needed and had many spices and oils for cooking for 10 of us; we did a lot of eating, preparing and cleaning. They had a covered, detached, outdoor patio for the bbq grill where we grilled up steak, shrimp and veggies. The grill was new and was only used once before. The location was 15 miles from Santa Fe, we didn’t want to be in Santa Fe, just close to it. The only negative thing that I can think of was that it was a little close to the highway, so we could hear some of the traffic; but with the window closed we couldn’t hear it. We have booked many properties over the years and there are comparisons of price, bedrooms and bathrooms but what you can’t find out before getting there is how friendly and helpful the owners are. Roland and Myrna are very friendly and helpful and took time to spend with us and they welcomed us to come back.
