  • Perfectly peaceful

We stayed at the cottage for a week in August 2018 with our two boys, ages 10 and 12 - and it was a perfect vacation. The cottage came with everything we could have needed and exceeded our expectations. It was clean and cool (great central air) and well stocked. It had a lot of nice touches - the owners left us a bottle of wine, a danish, hand sanitizer and beer koozies. There was a bottle of lotion, flash light and tissues in each bedroom, tons of towels, plenty of beach towels, fresh bars of soap in the bathroom, extra blankets, bug spray, laundry supplies. The location is very private, quiet and peaceful. Although it is quite a climb down to the river - it was completely worth it. The boys couldn't get enough - swimming, fishing, kayaking - the water is warm and shallow. Definitely need water shoes since there are a lot of shells on the shore. We saw a lot of wildlife - bald eagles, ospreys, blue tailed skink (small cute lizard). The ferry ride over to Jamestown/Williamsburg was easy and convenient. We literally would not change a thing about our week, it was perfect.

  • We returned for a second time!

The house is set on such beautiful property. We saw such a variety of wildlife, yet never saw a single insect in the house. That means a lot to me. Outside, we saw a turtle, praying mantis, green tree frog, herons, hawks, dolphins, three kinds of crabs, some strange shrimp-looking crustaceans near the rocks in the water and many insects we aren’t used to in NY. The kids were fascinated by all of this. It rained a few days, but we were able to go to the local museums and still had beach time around the rain. Without the rain, my kids and husband would want to be at the beach nonstop, so this weather worked in my favor. We had some decent sunsets, but one really great one. If the weather cooperates, you will get the best sunsets here! The cabin is comfortable and a good size for a family of four or five. My daughter kept calling it “the cozy cabin.” We will probably return again someday. There’s so much to see and do in the area. The owners are fantastic. Don’t hesitate to book.
