If you’ve been to Aruba before and are familiar with the island but don’t want to stay at an expensive resort, then Malou’s apartment should be on the top of your list. This was our first time staying at an Aruban VRBO, however, we have been coming to the island for a combined 21 years. The apartment is in Bubali which is close to Eagle Beach, Superfood, Quinta Del Carmen, and Madam Janet.
The apartment is very clean and obviously newly built with a small outdoor patio. The unit itself is about 800 square feet consisting of a separate enclosed bedroom with an open living room, kitchen and dining area. There are two very powerful air conditioning units in each room and they are strong enough that the whole apartment is cold in just 10 minutes on high (even after being off all day in the Aruban desert heat!). The unit was warm and cozy, perfect for a couple. We didn’t feel squished or hindered in anyway even after a 10 day, 9 night stay.
One thing to keep in mind is that the bathroom is in the bedroom and separated only by a pony wall. This was of no inconvenience for us but if you haven’t gone to the bathroom in front of your significant other it could be a little awkward lol. It should also be noted that you’ll need to bring your own shampoo and toiletries. This was all easily procured at Superfood but to cut down on costs could be brought from home.
The unit has two TV’s both with Netflix, other streaming services and a variety of movie and tv channels. It is attached to Malou’s home with a separate coded entrance however, it is built well enough that only running water for a shower in her home could be occasionally heard. Parking is available in front of the house and we were never concerned with our rental car. There was a full size refrigerator / freezer that we stuffed with groceries from Superfood that provided us with breakfast and lunch every day. We asked for her grill but only ended up using it one night. It was very big and clean but we wanted to enjoy the abundance of restaurants on the island. There were two beach towels, beach chairs, and a cooler available for use should you not want to hassle with renting lounge chairs and a palapa.
Malou was always available via WhatsApp text and would respond within moments of any message we sent. She recommended we download the Maps.me app which proved invaluable during the trip. Overall, we had such a good experience that before we left we booked and put down a deposit for our next trip
