We loved this apartment and would book it again if we were to return to Cala Gonone. While the apartment itself is small, the balcony and its view more than compensate. The apartment overlooks a footpath that takes you to the beach below the apartment or into town. So there is nothing between you and the water other than a footpath, some greenery and then the cliff overlooking the beach and the sea. The balcony has a dining table and a comfortable seating area. When we were in the apartment, we were either asleep or on the balcony!! The apartment is just a short (15 minutes) walk to town along the footpath and we made that walk a couple of times a day. It is a pleasant walk with only a few steps as you walk up from the beach. While we originally thought the apartment was a little far from town, we quickly came to appreciate the location's peacefulness. Although we did not have a car, if you have any mobility issues, you would need to have one to stay here. We found the beach below the apartment to be nicer and less busy than the beaches closer to town. The apartment is not luxurious but it is comfortable and well-equipped and we did not find anything missing that we needed for our stay. Our only concern was that there was no internet service. However, we compensated by walking into town each morning and having a cappuccino and a croissant at Restaurant Gabbiano by the marina and using their wifi. We came to enjoy the exercise, the coffee and watching the morning's harbour activities. Ignazia, who takes care of the apartment and its guests, was a gem. I added the fifth star because of her. Although she did not speak much English and we spoke less Italian, she managed to communicate very effectively using the translation function on her cell phone. She gave us a lift into town to do our initial shopping when she realized that we did not have a car. Also, at the end of our stay, she found us a way to get from Cala Gonone to Alghero without an all-day trip. We had failed to appreciate the challenges of travelling from a relatively isolated location without a car! If you are looking for a peaceful beach holiday in a wonderful little seaside town, Cala Gonone and Casa Matteo would be an excellent choice. Be sure to make a sea excursion down the coast to truly appreciate the natural beauty of this part of Sardinia.

We enjoyed our stay in the cute little hillside house. It was a short but somewhat steep walk into town, 5 minutes down. The owner was very nice, molta gentile, and quick to respond to any questions or needs. The weather was warm but a small fan in the bedroom helped us to sleep. It was also nice to have a washer and drying rack provided. Thank you Luciana!
