My husband and I stayed at the ranch with two other couples in from LA & SF for my 39th! We all come up to the SY valley regularly for fresh air, beautiful country, good food, and wine, wine, wine and more wine. I've stayed at several places in the area and this is my fave. Everyone in our group remarked how comfy the beds/linens were, how deeply and peacefully they slept, and how waking up to panoramic views of nature (especially the birds) set each day off right. While at the ranch, the highlight was sitting together at the big table overlooking pastures and mountains where we played games, ate BBQ dinners and nursed our wine tasting hangovers with big home cooked breakfasts. The ranch has a homey vibe and is rustic, filled with antiques and definitely roots you in a feeling of country. Some modern perks like a dishwasher, gas grill, and outdoor fireplace provide convenience and ambiance. Andy was a great host and very quick to respond to my pre-travel inquiries and let me know that if I needed anything, such as add'l firewood, etc. to just let him know. Off the ranch, we bounced all around, including vineyards deep in the hills and off the beaten path, the town of Los Olivos, Buellton and of course, Santa Ynez. Getting everywhere was easy breezy. It was the best of both worlds: staying somewhere super secluded but also conveniently close to anything you want to do or see. Will definitely be back!
