The house is a great size if you are traveling with family/friends. It is in an excellent location for getting to sights and attractions.
We had an issue with one of the televisions while staying at the property and Ron was quick to respond and get it taken care of for us.
The house is dated in appearance and decor, which is not a huge deal but the beds, chairs and sofas are droopy and flattened out; some more than others. The house has a cluttered feel. In the bedroom we used (upstairs, front) there was a bench and a foot stool. In the kitchen, almost every counter has something on it, which doesn’t leave much room for renters coming in with groceries and such.
The house needed some attention in the cleanliness department. When we arrived, at first glance, everything appeared fine. But, we had our two year old granddaughter with us and she was crawling and playing in the floor as soon as we got there. She was covered in hair and dirt. When one of her toys went under a sofa, I was shocked at the buildup of hair and dust underneath. I got out the vacuum and vacuumed the upper story, including under the sofas and beds.
We then began to notice other areas that needed some extra attention.
Having cleaned rental houses in college, I know that there is only time to get in and do basics during the rental season but at some point the owners need to make arrangements for a little deeper clean.
Overall, we had a nice vacation and were able to spend some time with extended family. The house was large, has nice amenities and is in a great location but for the price we were a little disappointed in the details.
So even before we arrived, the owner was super responsive and answered all our questions. Once there, the house did not disappoint.
We really enjoyed "The Lodge." We were 2 families of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids each) and it was the perfect fit. The rooms were nice with a very comfy living room. TVs in each room, which the kids appreciated. The kitchen was GREAT - spacious and had everything we needed to cook. We were also able to grill as the house had all the necessaries for that. We took advantage of the fire pit and made s'mores, which the kids LOVED. The ping pong table was also a big hit with the adults and kids alike!
The house is definitely tucked away from central Asheville (about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown as getting down the road is about 10 minutes in and of itself) but when you are at the Lodge, you feel like you are in your own mountain retreat. We also enjoyed hiking on the property and took a group hike on the Ridgeline Trail, which we all loved.
It was a great few days and we really enjoyed everything! Would definitely recommend if you are trying to do a getaway but still want to be able to enjoy Asheville as this house offers the best of both worlds.
