  • Really enjoyed our stay

First, the not so good: We were in San Diego over New Years, and the weather was colder than expected (for San Diego at least). We are not reducing the stars due to that, but rather dealing with the colder weather was a bit difficult. More specifically, each room in the house has their own heating unit, and it took us a little while to figure out how best use them given how cold it got at night and even during the day -- but we did get the hang of that. However, on the middle floor, where the kitchen and family room were, it was much harder to keep that warm. So when we woke up in the morning, it was just freezing on that floor -- and that is where everyone went. Once you turned on the fireplace (which we didn't want to leave on overnight), things improved -- but each morning was just colder than we wanted. Further, while the pool and hot tub were heated, we had similar issues with them given the outside temperature. We would get back from a long day out, and the kids would want to get into the pool, but it was just cold -- as the pool is set up to heat overnight. By the time we got back, it was quite cold again -- and then trying to heat it then just took some time. That was the bad, and now for the slightly 'weird'. As others have noted in their reviews, the island in the kitchen is high, and that is where the sink is. This is definitely not a big deal at all, but just weird and a little awkward. Now for the good. The house is in a great location. Our longest drive was probably 20 minutes. Everywhere we wanted to get to was easily accessible from this location. Also, the property is great and well maintained. We had absolutely no issues with it, and I could imagine if the weather had been nicer, us enjoying it even more (the pool and deck). Bruce was great at check in, and when we had some initial questions, he was extremely responsive. The kids enjoyed the space, and it was nice to be able to spread out and not be cramped. Ultimately, if we were to come back to San Diego, we would definitely consider this location again -- we would highly recommend it (we would just aim for or hope for warmer weather).

My family stayed her for six days from 12/28/2018 thru 1/3/2019. There are two outdoor patio areas, one upstairs off the master suite and one in the main floor. Both of these areas provide stunning viuews from this hillside retreat of the Mission Beach area. The home is located in a quiet neighborhood with ample driveway and street parking. The main living area is one large open concept space that flows from kitchen to dining to family room with a gas fireplace in the corner. The three panel.sliders both upstairs and on main floor all retract to provide a very large open doorway. The beds very comfortable and the bathrooms were clean for our visit. The kitchen and dry goods areas were amply stocked with spices, and the like. There was a coffee grinder, large three cup French press, toaster, blender and plenty of plates, glasses and utensils. We had to contact the owner, Bill, for help getting the TV turned on but my son took care of that with a quuck phone call to the owner. He was very accommodating and said to call him if we had any questions or needed anything at all. Needless to say we will be returning to this great relaxing vacation home. Don't pass it up.
