Very nice accommodations! My husband and I loved sitting on the front porch listening to the water. Sooo relaxing. :) I have never been in a more beautiful cabin. I actually got a lot of decorating ideas for my dads cabin! So beautiful!! We definitely plan to stay here again. 😊
I was traveling with my 4 year old son, and we had such a wonderful time! The apartment was neat and tidy, and a perfect spot for the two of us but it would also be great for a family of 4. Marilyn was so kind and welcoming when we saw her our first morning, and we had a great tour guide in her grandson who showed us his forts around the property. The first thing that came to mind when putting things away was how thoughtful of a host she was - she even had tweezers and children's Tylenol in the medicine cabinet, along with plenty of spices and cooking oil in the kitchen. The bed and couch were very comfortable which we enjoyed very much after our long days of adventures. The bed is a bit high, so if you're sleeping with a child, I suggest using a few of the ample pillows provided and sticking them under the sheets along the edge - it kept my crazy sleeper contained! The property is absolutely GORGEOUS and very well maintained. It's easy to find, but make sure that you have your GPS tracking your route before your arrival to the property as well as before you leave to go out in town (if you're directionally challenged like myself) because cell service is very limited in the area and there are a lot of dead zones (which I personally enjoyed!). The horses are beautiful to watch, and we made good friends with Everest and another dark brown horse by the barn that my son decided to call Lulu. We had the most wonderful time, and I left feeling refreshed and stress free. The trip fed my soul!
Damascus, VA is about 20 minutes away, and there are several places that you can rent a bike for the day and ride down the VA Creeper Trail. We had a lot of fun our first day with that! The second day we drove out to Grayson Highlands State Park which was about an hour away - wonderful place to hike, amazing views, and wild ponies! Our last day we went to Fish Springs Marina at Watauga Lake and rented a jet ski, but they also have pontoon boats, canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks. I had THE BEST mac and cheese of my life at the Damascus Brewery restaurant. A few things to keep in mind are the limited cell service (I had no issues with putting in my destination before we left the apartment and following along that way) and that many of the restaurants in the area close early during the week at 8:00 or so. Overall, the area is absolutely stunning with SO many fun things to do outside. We had such a blast and I look forward to staying there again!
