  • Delightful weekend away.

We couldn't have asked for a better way to start out the new year than a long weekend at The Old Bear Lodge. First let me say that The pictures don't do it justice. This cottage is so charming. As soon as you drive up the hill you know you've arrived at somewhere extra special. Forget swanky hotels. The Old Bear Lodge couldn't have been more peaceful and cozy. We loved having coffee on the back porch, watching the dear from the back deck and listening to the rain on the tin roof. Sunshine is so overrated when you have such a darling place to spend your weekend. The drive into town was an easy one, with so many great choices of restaurants. We especially enjoyed having drinks by the fire pit at Shenanigans and enjoyed the live music inside. When we didn't eat out we Had stopped at the store on the way in for essentials...Everything you need is close but if you are lucky you'll get a package left by the owners, homemade Pumpkin bread delivered on the back porch with a stick of butter! We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Rebecca Holley Forty

Beautiful place! Don't miss the WATERFALL nearby - a short walk can take you to the waterfall on the property!! So relaxing and pretty... it's just a little creek but I loved it. You can find it by following the water from where it flows under the (really long) driveway. We had a few questions about the area and called Linda. She was so nice, and seemed to know the area very well. The house was very clean, and well-outfitted with everything we needed for our stay. The kids even had an Xbox to play with when they were tired of hiking around the area. I was able to show the kids that old-school games like the air hockey setup in the basement are fun - although I didn't let them beat me. There is fishing nearby but wound up not doing that this trip. We did go by a winery nearby: Cavender Creek Vinyards & Winery. What a treat! We mostly cooked our own meals - brand new grill outside! Also, a full kitchen inside with the usual appliances, pots and pans - I didn't want for anything in the kitchen.
