Wonderful apartment with so much character. Great location.
The negatives: Lighting inside the apartment is very dim. The stove did not work. We never go hot water in the downstairs bathroom. Television also a no-go.
When we arrived we immediately fell in love with Guanajuato and Casa Colibri. It's such a beautiful place – both day and night!
The apartment is huge yet comfortable and decorated with much love and creativity. We found everything we needed and were especially fond of the well-equipped kitchen and the amazing views from the living room and rooftop terrace. Torsten was very responsive and easy to communicate with and Gerardo would be at our door within minutes whenever we asked for help. Note, however, that he speaks Spanish only. (We should have practiced more!)
Guanajuato itself is a lovely little town, there's always something going on in the city center – which is reachable on foot within a few minutes – and the colorful alleys and stairways will invite you to explore. One thing to note: there is no way to access the apartment by car and you will have to climb quite a few stairs in both directions to reach the nearest road. So pack lightly! (Or ask Gerardo for help.)
We also used the apartment as our home office for about a month – but cannot wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow remote workers since the internet connection was not the most stable (as seems to currently be the case in large parts of Mexico).
We stayed there over Christmas and New Year's Eve and it was amazing – watching the city fireworks from the big living room window was grand. But it could get quite cold inside the apartment at times and loud, too, when firecrackers exploded right outside in the alley.
Should we ever come back to Guanajuato – and we'd love to – we will definitely stay at Casa Colibri again.
