We stayed here for two nights and had a lovely time. The annex is clean, adorable, and the amenities provided were really thoughtful (things like washer/dryer, an umbrella, snacks and milk in the fridge, guides to York). The little back patio was a beautiful and peaceful spot to relax after a day walking. Heslington Village is a 20-minute bus (or 10 minute uber) ride from the center of town. For our family, it was great to be a little out of town. The nearby pub was wonderful and we went there twice for dinner. Dave, the owner, was great about providing instructions and some travel advice for the area prior to our arrival. He left a birding book and some binoculars on the table for us, since my daughter is a bird enthusiast (and we used them on one of the walks that was recommended). The Annex is really close to the University of York and would be great for parents of students, or anyone seeking to stay a little outside of the busier city. We would stay here again!
We needed to be close to Sandburn Hall for a wedding and the cottage was ideal, despite what Jayne said it was easily walkable as long as you keep your wits about you as there is no sidewalk but we cut through chalets which was longer but a lovely walk.
The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and although there were only two of us 4 adults could stay there in comfort. It is only a ten minute drive to the park and ride into York which I would recommend if you go to York. We spent three days in Flaxton and if we had had more time we would have loved to stay longer.
Jayne was very helpful and although we didn't really need anything we knew she was next door if anything went wrong.
We would wholeheartedly recommend the cottage to anyone who wants to visit the area, especially if you are attending an event at Sandburn
