We were looking for a place to stay for a family wedding and we needed to plan for the possibility of a family member with health issues to attend at the last second. The hosts were happy to extend the time we needed if our relative could make it at the last minute. While the description says the rental is on several acres on Hartwell Lake, it’s actually one of two properties on the tract: the rental and the owners’ home. But Mary and Pat were so great. They were very helpful to offer anything we needed, yet were unobtrusive. We enjoyed talking to Pat about the several projects he has in his adjacent shop. We also loved the covered, two story deck by camping out there all morning with a thermos of coffee and our books. While the house has beds for 4, there’s a couch bed and other furniture to sleep a few more. If you’re into fishing, bring your boat or rent one and stay for a week. My feline-loving wife was thrilled to meet three of the four outdoor cats on the property. Also, saw dear and other wildlife without trying. One thing to note, this is not a rent it and forget it place. Like a family beach rental, the hosts expect you to wash dishes, sheets and properly dispose of waste before you leave. And we were very happy to comply. You’ll enjoy your stay here if you’re willing to put the place mostly back in the shape you found it and enjoy meeting gracious hosts. (Ask Pat about the all-wood pristine canoe and how he hoped to bless someone with it. ) Finally, The Local Pub and Tavern, 30 minutes away, had very good food at very reasonable prices.
