My girlfriend and I were pleased with the room. It was homey and comfortable.
Location was great! We wanted to spend time on both the north and south shores and Waipouli, next to Kapa'a, was a good home base for exploring. It took about 25 minutes to get to Poipu and about 40 minutes to Hanalei Bay. We enjoyed the flexibility of choosing where to go based on the weather and our preference for the day.
There were many amenities near the hotel. It's just a few blocks from Safeway and a short walk down the street to the Island Country Market at Coconut Marketplace, where my girlfriend got coffee in the morning and we bought poke bowls for our beach trips.
Although the hotel is not directly on the beach, there were other hotels nearby (a short walk) where you could dine or enjoy the bar scene on the beach. Lava Lava Beach Club at the Kauai Shores Hotel had an active restaurant and bar. We were told that Oasis on the Beach had a good bar as well, but didn't make it there.
Was just a short drive to delicious tacos (Tiki Tacos) and an upscale dining option (JO2).
We made use of the cooler in the room, but the beach chairs were very uncomfortable. Best to rent those nearby (Boss Frog's or Snorkel Bob's) as well as adult size boogie boards. There are beach toys in the room for kids and a child's boogie board.
The kitchen was very well supplied for cooking or baking. We did a lot of cooking and had everything we needed. Weber gas grills near each building were convenient.
Beds were comfortable, but we wished we had a larger bed than a double. We could see the room working out for parents with a small child or two children.
Only spent a little time at one of the hotel's pools, but it was nice and clean. There is some sound of traffic as the main highway is close to the pools.
Things To Improve -- nothing major:
- The hotel could provide a nicer designated smoking area for its guests who smoke. Currently, there are small benches in two different parking lots where smoking is allowed (vigilantly enforced). A roof over that area would be good for when it rains.
- Carpet is not the best material for the lanai given the humidity and continual drips of water from the A/C unit. It made for some dank and moldy sections. Bare concrete seems like a better choice.
- There was a red vertical line on the living room TV and the speakers were blown on CD player
Overall, I think Plantation Hale is a good value for the price and I would recommend staying there.
