  • Excellent Home with exceptional views!

The home matched the photos and description on the site. Each bedroom has A/C and a private bathroom. The living area is comfortable and the views throughout are awesome. We rarely used the pool but it adds a nice touch and is a great place to relax and have a drink at the end of an adventure-filled day. We had an extremely long travel day (coming from LAX) so by the time we got off the ferry at Road Town we were beat! Having Arman, Nadine (not sure of the spelling) and a rental car waiting for us at the terminal was a very welcome surprise. It took maybe10 minutes to sign for the car and then Arman and Nadine led us to the house. It was dark and we never would have found it ourselves. You must rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Period. The roads up the mountain are steep, narrow and full of potholes. Many of the roads on the island are in bad shape so we did a self-driving tour on day one to get comfortable with the conditions (and driving on the opposite side of the road for us). The locals also tailgate and drive aggressively on VERY steep (and winding) roads so be patient. The house is on the West End where it is less busy. Smuggler's Cove is close (take the paved road over) and is a great place to snorkel and just hang out. It was the least crowded beach since the cruise ships don't get over that far. There's a place to eat (Nigel's) on the beach but it is far cheaper to bring your own cooler over. The house has a few beach chairs you can take (or you can rent some from Nigel). To get to other islands take the ferries. West End has a ferry to Jost Van Dyke (and the Soggy Dollar)...great beach there. Take a Road Town Ferry to Virgin Gorda (one ferry is $30/each the other is $38) and walk down with your snorkel gear. You can set up a private boat tour but if the conditions aren't right you won't even get to Virgin Gorda because boats have to dock 50 meters out. In both cases you will need to take a taxi from the dock to the beaches. These run $5 to $8/per person each way. You can walk from Great Harbor to the Soggy Dollar but....don't. It's steep and wastes too much time. Make sure you get a fare quote before getting into a taxi. We were severely ripped off on St Thomas by one taxi driver. Be sure to set up a snorkel/dive tour early. We had an exceptional day touring numerous islands where the snorkeling was spectacular. Also, if you don't have an international calling plan, get a phone card. You have to call to set up boat tours.
