  • Awesome in the rain forest!!!

The home was very clean. The bedrooms are nicely decorated and very cozy. Had everything we needed for a great stay. Really love being so close to the park, every morning we walked in the beautiful rain forest on some great trails.

  • Elegant, well-appointed, private cottage
    5 of 5

Charming, cozy, and clean cottage. Randal changed my mind about vacation rentals with his delightful cottage. Not only were the grounds like a small botanical garden—complete with a lovely fish pond, an amazing array of plants and trees, and rolling lawns, the interior of the cottage was outfitted for comfort, ease, and relaxation. From the lovely pictures and delightful bibelots decorating the walls and corners to the comfortable furniture, from the sprays of newly cut flowers in pottery vases to the fully outfitted kitchen, there was nothing that we needed that he didn’t already anticipate and provide. Run out of lighter fluid for the woodstove lighter? There’s extra butane in the drawer. Need extra washcloths? Basket full of them right there on the window sill. Need a mosquito coil? There’s a box of them. Need something to write letters with? There are beautiful, hand-made cards adorned with painted silk cloth. The cottage was equipped the way a well-considered household is equipped. There was nothing that we needed (cooked in almost every night) that wasn’t already there. Linens, silverware, utensils, furnishings were tasteful and useful. All the dishes and glasses were sets and not mismatched odds and ends. I generally avoid these rentals (and stay in hotels instead) because it always seems like the owners are guarding against a hoard wrecking the place and therefore furnish it sparsely with the cheapest, doesn’t-show-dirt, and will-withstand-brutal-treatment-by-Neanderthals furniture and supplies. Not Randal’s. Randal’s cottage is laid out and furnished to make you feel like you’re staying at someone’s well-appointed home. On two days, it was raining so hard that we decided to stay in and were very comfortable. The covered patio adds extra living space and we could sit and read or eat outside very easily. And, he is wonderful about respecting your privacy. The cottage is set down in a little valley on the property and completely private from the main house. When we needed a mid-week trash pick up (we were there for a week), he made sure to call to let us know when he was coming down to the cottage. Oh, forget to bring ear plugs and the coqui frogs’ singing bother you at bedtime? There’s a whole bottle of earplugs in the medicine cabinet. Would definitely stay here again!
