While the surrounding location is a little off putting at first, the Blue Heron is a surprising little hidden gem. The house was very well kept up, we had access to everything we needed right there and while we didn’t get to spend a lot of time in the backyard there was some nice features back there. This is a perfect spot for a small family of four like ours and we got to bring our dogs with no extra hassle. It’s also close enough for a (long) walk to the beach but not so close that it made the price unreasonable.
My wife + 3 sons + dog decided to get away from busy Chicago city life and spend 3 nights at Sanctuaire. It did not disappoint. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep and the master suite and master bath were HUGE. The kitchen is a bit small but we made do. The boys enjoyed fishing on the lake in the row boat in the mornings and building fires at night. The hot tub was also a nice amenity and had hanging space outside for towels and robes. The house was extremely clean upon check in and the boys loved that there were a lot of games available. The house sits at the end of a dead end street and provides decent privacy (there are neighbors on either side however that are no more than 100 feet away). We spent one day at the beach in New Buffalo (20 minutes away) and another day at the beach in St Joe (20 minutes away). Warren Dunes is also very close as is a dairy farm and several wineries. When we left, I forgot my coffee maker and Mona delivered it back to me at no cost to me (Thanks Mona!). Another nice touch were the dog treats and a bottle of wine that were left for us when we checked in. My favorite part might have been sitting on the dock in the mornings and enjoying the quiet lake with fishing pole in hand (provided).
Great couple of days away. Thanks Mona!
