We have rented properties on Vrbo for many years. Sometimes the properties do not live up to their billing. However, in this case The Beach House was everything its website suggested it would be.
First the location -San Juan Island is a beautiful small island in the San Juan chain. Of course the views on the perimeter are gorgeous particularly on the southside where you look across the straits to the Olympic Mountains. The interior of the island is just as lovely with many beautiful farms. The house is located near Roche Harbor, A busy marina with several nice restaurants and a very well-stocked grocery store. 15 minutes away is Friday Harbor with many more restaurants and two excellent grocery stores. One word of advice: if you’re so inclined, bring your own alcohol since wine, beer and liquor prices on the island are quite high
Next, the house- though not “luxurious“ it is very spacious and well furnished. The kitchen is roomy with plenty of room to move around and fairly well stocked. All of the beds seem to be very comfortable. The main feature however is the lawn which leads down to Garrison Bay,a quiet body of water without a lot of boat traffic. At the waters edge is a fire pit with nice chairs around it. We spent many a late afternoon, and sometimes an evening, sitting around the fire.
Finally , I must give a shout out to Karen, the house manager ,
for averting what could’ve been a disaster. Our first morning in the house we suddenly ran out of water. I called karen and she and her partner showed up promptly. They were able to ascertain that the pump which supplied water to the house had gone out and would have to be repaired . Karen then arranged for a water tanker to come in and fill the holding tank with 3000 gallons of water which enabled us to get through the week.
I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants a quiet ,relaxed vacation .
We loved this place during our four night stay on the island. It is so damn adorable. We woke up each morning to see black foxes or otters playing out front, or seals out in the water.
The other house on the property is very close to the cabin, but we were pretty much undisturbed. We spend most of our days off on an adventure, and the cabin was a perfect quiet place to rest up in the evenings.
Cozy, quiet, and beautiful. Oh, and the sunrises from your pillow are quite spectacular.
