My husband and I stayed here with our dog for two weeks. Smuggler's Well was adorable and very comfortable, we enjoyed exploring the village and surrounding area and made it into Edinburgh several times. The cottage is a short distance from St. Andrews (15-minute drive) and about 1.5 hours outside of Edinburgh which was perfect for us since we actually spent some of our time here looking for a flat in Edinburgh. Parking was easy even on busier weekends and while there was a bit of noise from the street on weekends it was generally pretty quiet. Our dog loved the small garden and we enjoyed breakfast outside on sunny days. Cellardyke itself is a cute village and we enjoyed the GH Barnett bakery (great scones and leek and cheddar bread) and the Haven Bar and Restaurant they had great food and a beautiful beer garden they also allow dogs in half of the restaurant and in the beer garden. Another plus to this location is it's proximity to the Fife Coastal Path a scenic walking trail that stretches on for miles and you can walk to nearby villages. When we make it back to Cellardyke we would certainly stay here again, and we will definitely recommend it to friends. Kirsten was a lovely host and since we were staying longer she even came to change out our linens, which was much appreciated.
We had a great time in Bute, the place was very clean, very well equipped, amazing views, spacious and we loved the wood stoves (even though we didn't light them). Very modern kitchen and the décor felt like home away from home. Gordon was very helpful to us and attentive to anything we may have needed or questions we had. We would definitely rent again without hesitation. The winding staircase to the second floor was a bit of a challenge with large suitcases but it also added to the charm of the building and made you feel like you really were living in Scotland.
