This tiny house/yurt type building is filled with lovely touches; from the plants filling the windows to the lovely light fixtures. But, for me, the highlight was the claw foot tub. I was able to soak in the tub, luxuriously read and slowly drink my wine while ensconced in warm bubbly water. Worth every penny if you live, as I do, in a home with only showers! Plus, on my final morning, I awoke to a winter wonderland - snow had fallen overnight and everything was covered with snow; so utterly peaceful, undisturbed and pristine. Magical!
As for the amenities, I found the bed to be a very comfortable memory foam, with down pillows from IKEA. And the house was very clean - in fact, spotless. I visited in November, with chilly temperatures, and found the heating to be more than adequate, but was glad I brought along my slippers, since the tile flooring was cold without them. I ate most of my meals at the house, although Ithaca and its array of restaurants is only a few miles away. The house was supplied to prepare meals (pots, pans, tableware, etc.) but keep in mind that it does not have a stove or microwave; it has only a toaster oven and upscale hot plate. But these certainly were more than sufficient for my simple meals - salads, fruits, yogurts, soup & sandwiches, etc.
I did not have the opportunity to actually meet the owner but that was my fault. Immediately upon arrival, I immersed myself in the tub. Michelle did come down to the house, to bring more towels, but graciously left them outside the door since I had disrobed and was already settled in the tub when she arrived!
The house does have access to trails but I only briefly walked one - I’d love to return and spend more time outside. While I did sit at the conveniently located picnic table and noticed the fire pit, I did not bring any wood, so did not start an outside fire - perhaps upon my return, & in a different season, I’d certainly enjoy being outside more and delight in a small camp fire.
Overall, a lovely place to stay and certainly one I’d return to...
We had a great time in the Watkins cabin. The cabin was clean and well stocked with supplies. The Kayak rentals were easy and convenient, the deck was really nice for grilling, and at dusk we would walk down to the beach and enjoy beautiful sunsets with a glass of wine. We especially loved the location of this cabin only 5 minutes from Watkins Glen and right in the heart of the Seneca wine trail. We loved this cozy little cabin in the woods and hope to be back next year!
