The Danish concept of hygge—which roughly translates to "coziness"—is the Scandinavian secret to enjoying life amid winter's long nights and icy days. One of our favorite ways to experience hygge is in a B&B suite with a beautiful, spacious bathroom. Indulge in a tranquil dip in a deep fireside Jacuzzi, recline in a private steam bath, or warm up with a glass of wine in a soaking tub with a view. These seven gorgeous B&B bathrooms are the stuff of spa dreams—and they're guaranteed to lift your spirits during the coldest season of the year.
1900 Inn on Montford, Asheville, North Carolina
An image of 1900 Inn on Montford's stunning Fitzgerald Room's bathroom went viral to the tune of more than 60,000 repins when we posted it on our Pinterest page. What's more, all of the inn's beautiful washrooms are irrefutably Pinterest-worthy. The Fitzgerald Room's bathroom has a giant jetted corner bathtub (that fills from the ceiling) next to a rain shower with fiber-optic lighting. In the Zelda's Retreat bathroom, you'll find a thermostatically controlled shower and steam bath that has seven body jets, as well as a fireplace. The spa bathroom in the Cloisters has a two-person jetted tub in a sun room filled with plants. A personal favorite: The enormous jetted tub in the Rosetti Suite rests beside a fireplace and glass French doors that open to a private garden.
Gaige House, A Four Sisters Inn, Glen Ellen, California
One need not fly across the globe to enjoy a traditional Japanese soaking tub. Head to Gaige House in Glen Ellen, California, where an Asian-inspired ambiance—Japanese gardens, shoji-esque doors and clean lines—sets the stage for deep relaxation. In the inn's Zen Suites, cavernous black-granite soaking tubs overlook private rock gardens. Book a hot stone massage by the fireplace in your guestroom, then slip into a blissful bubble bath with a glass of wine and a good book.
Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins, Carson, Washington
Enjoy your own private cabin—with a spa-quality bathroom—at Carson Ridge, an inn in the heart of Washington's Volcano Country. Each cabin on the property's three landscaped acres offers a unique design. In select cabins, an eco-friendly two-person hydrotherapy tub (with plenty of lights and jets) rests in a river-stone frame near a fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. In others, slate rain showers big enough for two, jetted tubs encased in reclaimed wood and infused with lavender, and glass vessel sinks invite guests to relax and rejuvenate.
Creekhaven Inn, Wimberly, Texas
The most distinctive bathroom at Creekhaven Inn in Texas Hill Country belongs to the Treehouse Suite, where a five-foot air-massage tub sits beneath a high cupola decked in hand-painted murals. (Additionally, the suite has a two-person shower with body jets.) But the inn has even more washrooms worth writing about. The big whirlpool tub in the Wild Honeysuckle Room, for example, sits by sunny windows overlooking a private patio. Watch for wildlife from the warm comfort of a fragrant bath.
Brampton Bed and Breakfast Inn, Chestertown, Maryland
The bathrooms at Brampton Bed and Breakfast Inn, a historical 19th-century home set on 20 acres of lush grounds, have been updated with jetted tubs, working fireplaces, towel warmers, rain showers and vessel sinks. Each room in this property offers a unique and stunning contemporary bathroom. The Mulberry Cottage has, one could argue, the most impressive one: It features an enormous wood-framed Japanese soaking tub next to a roomy rain shower with six heads on a covered private porch—plus an additional Jacuzzi. Enjoy forest and meadow views from the wonderfully deep soaking tub.
Glasbern Inn, Fogelsville, Pennsylvania
Although it's just an hour's drive from Philadelphia, this 130-acre farm in the wilds of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley feels light-years away from asphalt and grit. Big and beautiful bathrooms add a welcome touch of luxury to the Glasbern Inn's pastoral ambiance. Revel in a sun-drenched bath in the massive tub under the skylights of the Gatehouse Skylight Loft. Or enjoy a steam shower for two in the Farmhouse Suite before wrapping yourself in a thick robe and resting by the wood-burning fireplace.
Della Terra Mountain Chateau, Estes Park, Colorado
