How to book a Mohican cabins vacation

Mohican State Park and the adjacent Mohican Memorial State Forest are amongst the most dramatically beautiful areas of Ohio. Once the hunting ground of Delaware Indians, the Mohican region is dominated by the impressive Clearfork Gorge, which stands at 1000 ft long and more than 300 ft deep. It’s also home to the Mohican River, swathes of thick hemlock forest, and a healthy wildlife population, including wild turkeys, salamanders, red fox, and racoons. Cabins, cottages, and other vacation rental homes will get you closer to nature, whatever your budget or party size, with most open throughout the year.

Nestled next to the shores of Pleasant Hills Lake, Mohican State Park is made up of around 1,100 acres of forest, plains, and hills, cut through by both Clearfork Gorge and the Mohican River, and surrounded by the Mohican Memorial State Forest. Cabin rentals here are well placed to take advantage of all the area’s outdoorsy activities, including boating, mountain biking, fishing, picnicking, and walking the 13 miles of hiking trails. You’ll find everything from cute log cabins for 2 to sizeable clapboard cottage rentals for large groups; but what they all have in common is a stunning location. Some are lakeside, with easy access to the water, some are set in the thick of the forest, and some are in the hills, with views out over the gorge.

Choosing a secluded cabin in Mohican State Forest

Woods thick with fall foliage

Set next to Mohican State Park, the forest covers an even larger area of around 4,500 acres. Criss crossed by the Mohican River and a number of smaller streams, it’s rich in trees and plants including oak, hickory, cherry, aspen, sycamore and hemlock. These in turn support a vast array of wildlife such as coyte, fox, black rat snake, and a number of rare breeding birds. Holidays to this part of the state are all about spending your time out in the open, and your vacation rental home will make sure you get to make the most of the area’s 24 miles of hiking trails. Head here in the winter and you can take to the trails on cross-country skis instead of hiking boots, and light your cabin’s log stove to ramp up the cozy atmosphere.
