  • Very helpful and thoughtful owner; beautifully furnished and clean apartment

"We thought we'd select a slightly different holiday destination this year and go to China. The natural choice for our maiden China voyage was Beijing. The apartment is in a gated residential district of SouthEast Beijing and well located for hailing licenced taxis or taking the bus. The nearest subway (metro, tube) is about 20 minutes walk away. We found the subway to be very good value (around £0.50 for a single journey) and reliable (in terms of time) for getting around Beijing. The subway facilities are also clean modern and air conditioned. The residential district was well located for trying out local cuisine with a number of restaurants within a 10 minute walk. There were also several grocery shops conveniently close by. Unfortunately staples for the British diet like butter, jam and black tea proved impossible to find. Notably, I always felt safe in the area, even when exploring the local eateries late in the evening. For non far Easterners China can be a daunting place to visit as both the written and spoken language are so unique and few Chinese people speak Engligh so trying to negotiate activities like eating out, travel, shopping and touring can be extremely tricky without a local host. This is why the property owner (and her wonderful brother) were so crucial to making our stay enjoyable. Although not present in the city she was very accessible and would reasons promptly to email enquiries provided links to apps and tourism websites. She thought of everything. She provided the property address and nearest bus stop in Chinese for taxi drivers and locals. Her brother (who resided in an apartment the floor above) and was happy to be called upon at anytime to resolve issues like Getting the wifi working, to helping us organise a taxi back to the airport. She also cautioned us about common scams such as illegal taxi firms and and tour guide firm pairing us genuine services and targeting foreigners - commonplace in the region. Needless to say, we were very grateful to have such kind, helpful, accessible property owners. Our arrival time was very late so her brother kindly provided breakfast for our first morning. There were also English maps, English to Chinese phrase books and dictionaries and tour guides. Our stay (6 days) seemed very short for the large city. If I were to return to Beijing I would definitely consider staying at this apartment again."

  • Great location. Within a few minutes walk: subway station, the north end of the Bund (Huangpu Park),

"Great location. Within a few minutes walk: subway station, the north end of the Bund (Huangpu Park), eateries and small shops. The building is a high rise that includes a hotel and some serviced apartments. There is a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor. We were in unit 2112, the unit itself might look a little oldish and need some renovations but nothing that is a deal breaker. Appliances were all in working order as was the wifi. The unit sleeps 6 persons (3 pairs on 3 double size mattresses): one pair on the main floor and two on the mezzanine. Before our arrival Fanglu, our host, had stocked up on bottles of water, beverages, noodle soups. Her price was very reasonable (sometimes cheaper than the store) so we helped ourselves and left the money in a little jar. Slippers, toiletries and towels were also provided. Fanglu speaks English. She was very helpful and responded to our every inquiry in a timely manner whether by email, text message or on the phone. That fact alone made it worth staying in this loft because one will quickly realize that Shanghai can be very complicated for a non-chinese speaker. I will definitely recommend staying in that loft."
