"I love staying in Wanchai when I go to Hong Kong and this is the first time I've stayed in a flat rather than a hotel. My sister and I (women in our fifties) stayed here and it was a great experience. The location is excellent and everything you need is in the tiny third-floor flat (with a rather large terrace) or in the local area. Ron emails you instructions on how to get to the building from the airport and how to get into the flat. First, you need to find the door marked "D" in the elevator lobby area on the third floor. You use a door code, which takes you into a small internal corridor with a washing machine and microwave used by the three units on the corridor. The door to Unit C is opened using another code. This may seem a bit confusing at first but is easy after you've done it once. The main door downstairs is open during the day but locked overnight and you'll find two copies of the key for the downstairs door in the unit. You need to take some time to understand the various electrical switches in the unit - for the air conditioner, boiler (water heater) and lights. The unit was very clean but the shower drain had a bad smell, so we kept the shower door closed at all times. We enjoyed our stay and thought we got very good value for what we paid. However, if you are unfit or overweight, you will have difficulty here. The flat is very small and you have to walk up a flight of steep stairs to get to the lift on the first floor. My sister and I usually walked up the three flights of stairs to the flat but we are both in pretty good shape. You can hear the traffic outside, which may bother some people. Finally, we liked the hard mattresses used all over China, but many people will find them uncomfortable. If you like a cushy mattress, you should definitely stay in a hotel. If you are young, fit and/or on a budget and a bit adventurous, you'll enjoy the feeling of really "living" in Hong Kong at Jade Wanchai."

"Jason is a great host and answered all our pre-trip questions in great detail. His apartment is clean, well-stocked with necessities, and located in a very local neighbourhood, giving us an authentic experience of Hong Kong. Sai Ying Pun MTR is also right opposite, hence making commuting around HK very convenient. There is only one drawback - the lady whom we had to get in touch with upon our arrival, was extremely rude, and could not give us proper directions from the MTR (which had many different exits) to the apartment. Better customer service (when in HK) could thus be an area for improvement."

"We enjoyed our stay in the apartment. They location was great. It was close to the MTR, trams and buses. There were many shops across the street for snacks and bread. The size of the apartment was great for our family of six. We didn't get to use the terrace since it was raining during our stay. The only thing we didn't like was the mouldy wallpaper. It made the apartment seem dingy. I would suggest chaning the wallpaper or painting the walls. Overall we had a good stay."

  • Great location, roomy and comfortable apartment.

"For our family of 4 this apartment was a great base for our time in Hong Kong. It is so convenient for Causeway Bay - MTR in 5 minutes and a great western supermarket just 2 minutes walk near Esprit, Starbucks just downstairs for morning coffee. Beds were comfortable, everything in the apartment worked well and it was very well equipped, and thoughtfully provisioned with many of the basics. It is a genuine older building and not a pristine new lobby and lift, more a taste of old Hong Kong. Only additions we'd have liked are a dishwasher and a washing machine or card to dial up a reasonable laundry service. But overall highly recommend this apartment, clean, well provisioned, very good location. Thank you!"
