  • Review of Casa by an artist

"I love the spacious ramble of this house and garden, moving from indoors to outdoors. I like looking at the fish in the lotus ponds, cooling off in the pool, lounging in the sitting spots, eating on the veranda, sleeping in the big master bed room, waking to the volcanoes and rice fields. The house is full of art: paintings, old statues, marble floors, mosaic walls, carved wood, old Javanese furniture. And to make it all perfect, the staff made me laugh, looked after me to perfection."

  • Friendly owner, well-appointed, well-looked-after.

"It's not 5-star hotel, and doesn't pretend to be. It is: friendly, well-appointed, clean, comfortable, and handy to many of the things to see in Kyoto. It's cute, embedded in the local community, close to shops, transport. We loved it, and made it a base for our week in Kyoto. Hiroko is a kind and attentive host. The no.5 bus and the tram gets to all of East Kyoto, with easy transfer to trains that cover the rest. Stairs inside are a bit steep if you have mobility issues, but our family loved it. Have already recommended it to several Japan-bound friends."

"Hello everyone, This was actually my second time staying at the Arashiyama Hanare house in Kyoto, Japan. I previously stayed here in 2010 with my family. It's a great place! I recommended it to my brother this September when he was touring Japan. The Hanare house is located on a quiet, lovely street tucked away in a charming Japanese neighborhood close to the station. Not only do you have plenty of personal space, they provide you with a lot of cooking ware and so it's easy to cook a good meal on days you feel like saving some cash. Of course there is also that distinct smell of bamboo and soil. Tatami mats have a relaxing odor and create a stunning atmosphere. I highly recommend staying here if you are passionate about Kyoto and Japan. Even the streets surrounding it are full of old book sellers, farmers, and craftsmen, etc. You are right by the bamboo forest and Monkey Park is within a walks reach. It's a must for me!"
