  • Wonderful stay!

"We stayed for 7 days in August 2016, for our 30th wedding anniversary. Josee was a gracious host and had many great recommendations for restaurants and trails. The suite was perfect for us - nice kitchen, comfortable bed, comfortable living area for reading, nice back yard for sipping wine and gazing at the mountains. Being three blocks off Banff Ave., we had easy walking access to downtown activities and trails without having to re-park the car, and our evenings at the suite were quiet and romantic. Josee also had a friendly dog who we enjoyed. The couch could easily be turned into a bed, so families with young kids could have a great stay here too. Whenever we go back to Banff, we will absolutely try to book Josee's suite again!"

  • A most beautiful and well-appointed VRBO...

"Carmen and Glen have created what is perhaps the perfect VRBO. The wooded glen where the Gatehouse is located could not be more idyllic and its proximity to Mt. Robson is thrilling beyond the telling of it. The Gatehouse is *perfectly* oriented toward Mt. Robson. That lovely hulk of a mountain fills your heart with joy. I don't need to review the house - read the other reviews and look closely at the photographs - it's all there and accurate and right. I want to talk about the details. The log fence, for instance, must have cost a fortune and it makes the place seem so much more snug and secure - it is literally a "hug." The kitchen is the best supplied that I have ever seen in a VRBO. It sports an electronic instant-read thermometer (a must have in my kitchen) a potato peeler, a bamboo cutting board, a roasting pan w/rack, other pyrex baking dishes, tupperware, dish clothes - rare in other VRBOs - really all the things you'll need to create just about anything your heart (stomach) desires. There are small appliances: a powerful hand-mixer, a stick blender and a regular blender and a full-sized electric griddle with oil catch. Happily there is an electric tea kettle and a nice (clean) tea pot that is big enough to serve 4. I mention again that this is so rare in most VRBOs that it must be noted and applauded - loudly - Tea Drinkers Rejoice! The shower is less than ideal to me. It was chic a few years ago to place your shower - often surrounded by river rock - anywhere you took a fancy. I don't like to have water splashed about, I always feel I am damaging the sills - "sill"y, of course - but the bathroom does have ambient heating in the floor so that it dries quickly. We passed through Jasper and took advantage of the terrific Bear's Paw Bakery and went a few times into Valemount. They have a full-sized (somewhat unfriendly) IGA but they also have another terrific bakery - The Swiss Bakery. Sylvia - the owner - is an adorable creature and Dave's Funky Goat Food Truck served the VERY BEST poutine we had this trip! No contest! The mountains surrounding Valemount are stunning. Other have mentioned the noise from the nearby road. You can't see it really - there are trees between you and it - and I slept in the loft on the right - away from the road - so I could not really hear it either. But my partner - in the left loft - heard the traffic a bit. If you travel with a Marpac Dohm DS Sound Machine - every traveler should - then you'll have no problem at all..."
