"We stayed over the Memorial Day weekend, and found the cabin quite comfortable for the 5 of us. A number of Provincial Parks are a short drive away, and we enjoyed spectacular hikes along the Cowichan River. We also brought along mountain bikes and took advantage of the nearby Trans-Canada Trail for family rides. Relaxing in the hot tub after our adventures was very nice.
The hosts were exceptionally helpful in providing travel advice and pointing out things to do in the area. We felt immediately at home in the cabin and on the grounds. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
This was my first time on Vancouver Island north of Victoria. Driving south from the Swartz Bay ferry landing, we could see the Olympic Mountains across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The views driving north along the Saanich Inlet are not to be missed!
I'm an avid biker, and I left the family behind for a late-afternoon adventure on Monday -- biking the parts of the TCT we'd missed as a family. I had nearly completed my loop -- from the cabin up to the trail on the north side of the valley, down into Duncan and then back up the south side -- when I got a flat tire. From across the river, I used the WiFi at the lodge to hail my son via email and get him to send across the cable cart. That saved me a six mile walk up to the next bridge and back. Technology to the rescue!"
