  • A Lot to Like...

"There’s a lot to like about this spacious, well-furnished lake house that we stayed at for three days in May. There were just the two of us, so we only used a portion of the house during our stay. You could see Lake Cowichan (and the mountains on the other side of the lake) from much of the interior of the house as well from the large front deck. The extensive grounds leading down to the lake are well cared-for and it was fun to ride back and forth to the waterfront with the golf cart. The docks weren’t in position for the season yet, so we didn’t attempt to carry the paddle boat down to the lake. There are many options for relaxing outside the house (in fact, the choices were a little overwhelming—we counted 12 different places to sit or sit and eat on the grounds and deck). The kitchen was outfitted well and we enjoyed making our own meals (especially after picking up groceries at the amazing Saturday Farmer’s Market in Duncan). Because the house is off the grid and has a unique water system there were a number of special instructions we had to follow during our stay, including daily flushing of the water filter in the crawl space below the house. The owner took the time to show us what needed to be done when we arrived (but I’d have appreciated a little more information about these requirements in the listing.) We had a few minor issues with this lovely accommodation, which would be useful to know before booking: The last 4 kms of the road to the house is gravel, which mades the last part of the journey dusty and slow in our small car. This also kept us from heading out for many local excursions. Guests have to bring our own sheets and towels, which we found irksome. We don’t have king size sheets so had to make do with flat queen sheets from home, that didn’t fit the bed in the master bedroom. No kleenix or paper towels were supplied, so we had to purchase our own. Although we paid a significant cleaning fee, guests are asked to vacuum or sweep before leaving, which doesn’t seem fair. The house doesn’t have a washer and dryer (not that the listing claims that it does), but I imagine this would make longer stays more challenging. The house and location are lovely and we really felt like we got away from it all. While we do plan to come back to explore this area again in the future, we’ll be looking for other accommodation to better suit our needs for the price we paid."

  • A pure day dream of a house

"I had the great fortune to be able to rent this cottage for a few days this past month. A totally unplanned vacation and what luck I had. Inside and out this is a place is a dream. The owners Gary and Meredith (two wonderful people) have it decorated so beautifully that you can’t stop walking around and admiring everything. Just when you think you have seen it all you discover another little treasure tucked away. The season was over at the time i rented so the hot tub was not up and running but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the home one bit. It just made me want to come back next year as I can only imagine how unbelievable it must be to be relaxing in the enjoying the warmth of that water while listening to the melody of the rushing water of the river just steps away. The salmon where just starting their journey up the river and one afternoon I saw a bear across the river feasting on one unlucky little guy. Quite an experience as you can imagine. If you need a break, time to unwind, or a romantic getaway this is most definitely the place and I highly recommend you take a serious look and book it."

  • Paradise!

"It's hard to know where to start to describe spectacular Thalassa Point. The lovely and beautifully furnished home is equipped with everything you could imagine to provide a relaxing and peaceful holiday! It is spotless and everything from the beds, linens, dishes, appliances etc. are all top quality. Almost every room has an ocean view where you can watch sailboats, stunning sunsets and sea otters playing. Each of the 3 bedrooms has it's own on-suite which made it perfect for my mother, sister and myself. The breathtaking gardens are delightful with little sitting areas and paths placed throughout the hundreds of plants, trees and shrubs that adorn the property. It is serene, private and very peaceful - truly a wonderful place to get away from it all. Yet it is only about 10 minutes to the ferry terminal and airport, wineries, restaurants, etc. Thank you so much to our hosts, Rob and Mark, who go out of their way to provide a one-of-a-kind, first class vacation experience! We can't wait to go back again next year!"

  • Fantastic Property

"We have stayed in the Sidney area many times before, but we're delighted with this home. The ease of access from the airport after a long flight and transfer in Vancouver was so helpful. The first morning greeted us with the most incredible sunrise, and they just kept coming throughout our stay. Everything about the property was first class, including the booking process made so easy by George. The friendliness of Lila and Les, was something we will long remember and hope to experience again next year. Thanks for making our holiday so memorable"
