  • Great downtown location

"The location was great for touring beautiful downtown Victoria. If you're not used to city noise you had better rent elsewhere. We are country folk and were tuned to traffic noise even on the 11th floor! But you get used to it. The apartment is not large but suited our needs for the short stay. Well equipped and clean. Is starting to show its age (10years) in the kitchen as the cupboards have signs of wear. Otherwise quite modern. The smaller bedroom has no place for you to open luggage other than on the floor (you are asked not to put luggage on beds). Good security in building and quiet building. The rooftop deck is very nice. Rental people are easy to deal with and very friendly."

  • A Lot to Like...

"There’s a lot to like about this spacious, well-furnished lake house that we stayed at for three days in May. There were just the two of us, so we only used a portion of the house during our stay. You could see Lake Cowichan (and the mountains on the other side of the lake) from much of the interior of the house as well from the large front deck. The extensive grounds leading down to the lake are well cared-for and it was fun to ride back and forth to the waterfront with the golf cart. The docks weren’t in position for the season yet, so we didn’t attempt to carry the paddle boat down to the lake. There are many options for relaxing outside the house (in fact, the choices were a little overwhelming—we counted 12 different places to sit or sit and eat on the grounds and deck). The kitchen was outfitted well and we enjoyed making our own meals (especially after picking up groceries at the amazing Saturday Farmer’s Market in Duncan). Because the house is off the grid and has a unique water system there were a number of special instructions we had to follow during our stay, including daily flushing of the water filter in the crawl space below the house. The owner took the time to show us what needed to be done when we arrived (but I’d have appreciated a little more information about these requirements in the listing.) We had a few minor issues with this lovely accommodation, which would be useful to know before booking: The last 4 kms of the road to the house is gravel, which mades the last part of the journey dusty and slow in our small car. This also kept us from heading out for many local excursions. Guests have to bring our own sheets and towels, which we found irksome. We don’t have king size sheets so had to make do with flat queen sheets from home, that didn’t fit the bed in the master bedroom. No kleenix or paper towels were supplied, so we had to purchase our own. Although we paid a significant cleaning fee, guests are asked to vacuum or sweep before leaving, which doesn’t seem fair. The house doesn’t have a washer and dryer (not that the listing claims that it does), but I imagine this would make longer stays more challenging. The house and location are lovely and we really felt like we got away from it all. While we do plan to come back to explore this area again in the future, we’ll be looking for other accommodation to better suit our needs for the price we paid."

  • Loved the location

"My husband and I recently spent 6 nights in the 12th floor condo in Astoria Building. The location was fantastic very close to many restaurants and the inner harbour. As mentioned by others this is a very secure place and lovely grounds; we used the parkade for a few days but did not need a car the whole time because of close walking distance to sites. We liked the idea of breakfasts and lunches in the condo and mostly went out for dinner as there are so many great eating places. Also enjoyed the balcony for sipping wine and enjoying the views. Bartholemew's British pub next door had good food and we attended one evening to hear a band playing classic rock tunes, nice to have live entertainment nearby. Others we liked were Nautical Nellie's, Red Fish, Blue Fish and Catalona. Janet, our host met us as planned and was very thorough ensuring we had a good tour of the premises. Would love to stay here again sometime in the future."

  • A Wonderful Place

"We spent six nights here, and we hope to come back next year. The view is even more spectacular than the photos, which is what lead us to choose this venue. Hubby did a time lapse movie of the tide coming in, and it is awesome - the sand being covered by water, the birds moving around, the sun casting shadows on the island in the distance, and the clouds moving past, a mesmerizing couple of minutes capturing a good six hours. The space itself is clean and very comfortable, with a home-like quality that puts one at ease. The living room furniture is very nice and easy sitting. The gas log fire place is one of the nicest we have seen. The dining table and chairs invite one to dine. And the kitchen has everything necessary to prepare those nice meals with fresh fish from the area. The place is well-appointed with plenty of towels, sheets, cook ware, dishes and silverware. Pantry items plus things like dry pasta were available in the cupboards. Plenty of hot water for showering or baths, soaps, lotion samples, cotton swabs... We even got to play Scrabble on a real board instead of on our kindle readers, a real treat. Covered parking right next to the stairs made it easy to get unpacked and out on the beach - oh, did I mention that Rathtrevor Beach Park with its beach walking and lovely forest trails is able to be accessed by a beach access path from the parking area. And Milner Gardens, Englishman River Falls and Englishman River Park are less than a half hour drive, while the Top Bridge Regional Trail going to the suspension bridge by Allsbrook Rd is only a four mile round-trip walk from the door. And the new front loading washer and dryer along with the high-speed internet and large, bright flat-screen TV made for a prime tech experience. Plus the email contact with the owner personalized the stay. Thank you for a perfect holiday adventure!"
