  • Fantastic cottage - everything our family needed!

"Avalon Wilderness Cottages are a beautiful find and wonderful place to call home for your stay in Newfoundland! My family and I enjoyed everything there was to offer, the lake, the canoe, the fire-ring, the swingset, the games and the comfortably clean cottage!!!! It was my first time to the island and we were meeting family for the first time as well! The cottage was a perfect location for everything we needed! Myles and Edna O'Brien are top notch people and went above and beyond any expectations we may have had - we recommend this cottage for anyone! We would definitely use Avalon Wilderness Cottages again when visiting Newfoundland."

  • Genuine Newfoundland experience

"This charming and cosy cottage was noteworthy in being very well supplied; fully stocked kitchen, nice AV setup (although we were more inspired to read as the book shelves were quite interesting), comfortable living room and comfortable beds. The beautiful setting provided us good access to the East Coast Trail which was our main activity. The exterior could use a coat of paint to add to the charm, and if the large cedar is removed it would give clear sight lines to the beach. George was very responsive and hospitable. When we asked where we might find fresh fish he connected us with one of the locals who took us out on the water where we fished and saw amazing wild life sights; it was magical."

  • So happy we picked Breakwater cottage!

"What a wonderful stay at Breakwater Cottage! Initially, we were unsure of staying outside of St.John's but we couldn't be happier with our decision. We have stayed in many VRBO's all over the world, and I am not sure that I have ever had an easier or more seamless stay. The cottage is exactly as pictured and was spotlessly clean. I am a bit OCD and usually need to wash all of the dishes and quite often the floor and more, but here, we arrived and had nothing to do! The towels and bed linens were wonderful. The bed fairly comfortable. The kitchen is more than we could have hoped for with absolutely everything you would need to cook a gourmet meal. The cottage itself is quiet, and the heating works great! Although we opted to have the heat off and used the wood burning fireplace. The internet worked well (cutting out only during the crazy winds on our last day) The drive into St. John's is easy and beautiful. The village of Petty Harbour is beautiful and the view from the cottage is breathtaking. The owners were very accommodating and although we never met, were available by phone and email for any questions/concerns. Highly recommend!!"

  • Beautiful spot on the harbour

"Five friends came down to ring in the new year. There were a bunch of very impressive fire work shows that went off around the bay and we had a view of the whole thing. The kitchen was well equipped and the house is close to the East Coast Trail. Very comfortable and spacious. Lucy even called us on our way down to check in with us! She is a lovely lady. We would stay here again!"
