  • Great location for exploring the Halifax area

"This house has been nicely renovated. The kitchen is very well equipped if you intend to cook at home and there is a grill and outdoor deck with table and chairs. Sobey's is nearby. The house is conveniently located for touring in the Halifax area. We enjoyed walking the trails nearby as well as the one at the Bean and Bike coffee shop. Lance was available for any questions. We would definitely rent this house again and would recommend it to others."

  • Very Interesting Place

"I was confused because from the picture I thought we were staying in the red building on the water and not the white house on the hill. As it turned out, the actual house had a much better view from all directions and we got great sunsets so this was a positive. Staying in a 200 year old house is an experience and we enjoyed all the old antiques. Our only complaint was the hot plate in place of the stove, but we used the 4 burner gas grill so that was not a problem. We used the double bed downstairs instead of the king bed upstairs because the bathroom is down stairs and no way are 2 seventy year olds going to climb up and down those stairs to go to the bathroom. Rolf was great and helpful with suggestions on where to get wine and ice. There is a NSLC agent a mile away for any alcoholic beverages you might need along with ice and a few food essentials. Otherwise shop at a Sobey's in Halifax before you get to the cottage. You are away from the tourist crowds but you have the advantage on sitting on the deck and watching them climb all over the lighthouse. Our suggestion is that you walk over to the lighthouse early before all the tour busses get there and unload their people. We were there in September and there were still a lot of tourists crawling all over the rocks and the lighthouse. It was actually fun to sit on the deck with a glass of wine and a pair of binoculars and watch the action. I would recommend this place. It's out of the way but an easy drive to Halifax to catch all of the sights there. One suggestion is to print off Rolf's instructions before hand because until you hook up to the cottage's WiFi (which is excellent and very fast) you don't have Internet to access HomeWay to read the instructions."

  • Big Historic House in a great location

"We really enjoyed our stay in Chester. The House is large and great for large groups. Easily walkable to the harbour and we found it to be a great central location for our sight seeing. The house has some 1860s charm, but is a bit ruff around the edges (peeling wall paper, and screens/windows that need replacing, trees that overhang the front entry), but we were really pleased overall. Everyone in our group enjoyed our stay. One inconvenience, email response from the owner was a bit slow at times when communication prior to booking."
