  • Great little cottage

"The Gatehouse is perfect for a couple with a dog (that was us!). Linda was helpful and has provided everything one needs. Although the cottage is not on the waterfront, Linda's house is, and she welcomes her guests to enjoy her chairs and the view. We bought lobsters, oysters and fish at Kissing Cod market on the pier and made a great dinner at the cottage. Baddeck is a picturesque, small town with plenty of restaurants, shops and resorts, so there is always something to do. For us, the proximity to the Cabot Trail was the lure and we drove up to Cape Breton National Park for a day of hiking, photography and awesome views. Overall, the Gatehouse was great for us."

  • Lovely house, beautiful lake!

"When you rent a house or cottage, it's not going to feel just like home -that's the idea! There will be little things you miss, or just don't like at all. I think the best travelers are probably those who can easily adapt to new surroundings and enjoy the experience. I'm not sure I'm one of them, but I'm trying. Loons Call 2 is a lovely lakeside home with lots of great amenities. The road down to the cottage is hard-packed stone and dirt - and the last 2 miles are kind of confusing the first time through. I would not recommend arriving in the dark. They aren't kidding when they say "away from it all" - there is literally nothing within 10-12 miles. A quick trip to the liquor store for beer is 15 miles away - also the nearest grocery, which is not great. If you can, get your supplies in Bridgewater or Halifax before you go. Bring your own drinking water until you decide if you like the well water. The cottage is well-supplied with linens, towels, pots and pans, dishes, cleaning supplies, etc. The kitchen is wonderful - plenty of storage space, great appliances, including a dishwasher! Good hot water for showers. No washer/dryer - although there are hookups in the bathroom, so maybe there will be when you get there. We took a couple of day trips, but it's a long drive to the scenic coastal areas. My husband tried fishing off the dock - no luck there or from the canoe on the main part of the lake - the renter next door caught a pickerel. The lake level is low this year because of the drought, so getting to the canoe was a bit tricky, lots of rocks to climb over, and the walkway to the dock has a perilous downward slant for me with my poor balance. I'm sure it's no problem for younger folks. Ah...but the lake is beautiful and the cottage is in a peaceful and quiet cove. Might be a little less quiet in the summer - we were there after Labor Day. We are in our early 70s. We rented Loons Call 2 Sept 4th-11th, 2016. Very happy with our experience - thanks, Mark and Tiffany!"

  • Wonderful little piece of Heaven

"Our time in Michael's Guest house was too short. The Margaree Valley was incredibly beautiful and Michael's hospitality equal to the location. Made to feel right at home and everything you could possibly want or need in this wonderful home. Fishing at the Salmon pool at the bottom of the property was the highlight of my trip and Michael's generous help with us less experienced fly fisherman made our day. Wonderful spot and host! • This accommodation was perfect for our stay in Halifax. The condo was close to everything.

"This condo was an excellent choice for our stay in Halifax. We were able to walk to everything. We parked our vehicle when we arrived and didn't use it until our departure. We were very pleased with this accommodation."
