  • Beautiful and quiet stay on Cape Breton Island for Celtic Colours

"My wife and I used the term the Glass House when we stayed during Celtic Colours 2016. Situated near the center of the island, it made a good starting point for touring to the various concert locations during the week we were there. The home itself was a unique experience for us. It is very private and located to take advantage of the view of the lake. We would wake up with the sun glowing through the fall leaves on the birch trees backed by the lake. The view of the lake would change as the sun rose and the mist and fog from the lake changed. I took some beautiful photos from the small dock on a day where there was no wind, the water reflecting the colors of the hillside like a mirror. The heat is through floors - very nice for walking about during the cooler weather. The kitchen is great and there is a large dining room table offering an excellent view of the lake and fireplace during meals. There is a large propane grill outside the home for grilling. The home is in excellent near new condition. There are two bathrooms, each with excellent showers. There is little to say that is not positive about this place. There is no radio or tv. Internet is reliable but slow. There is an excellent portable Bose speaker speaker system -- we used its Bluetooth capability to stream music. The little speaker system filled the house. I am really glad it was there for our use! It was very quite here during our stay. No noise from the lake, very little noise from the highway. For us, a perfect get away. If you stay here during Celtic Colours be prepared for some driving. If you come just for the music this may not be the place for you. We came for the music, of course, but we also came for the scenery, some hiking, and just to get away for a bit. The Glass House provided all this and more. Highly recommended, for sure!"

  • Excellent place - will book again for next visit back to Halifax!

"Absolutely perfect! Exactly what we were looking for. Close to the ocean and beaches and shoreline views. Coffee each morning on the beach was beautiful. We are a family of four that were there for 6 nights Highly recommend this place - especially if you have children but also perfect for a couple. Ethel was so professional and made you feel like you were part of her family. She was very accommodating and also had all kinds of things to help make your stay enjoyable. She was even able to provide a tent trailer for 4 members of our family that ran into well issues at their own Halifax home so came to stay with us for a few days. The beach flat had all necessities needed - right down to beach toys for our 'unplanned' young family members that joined us!"
