  • Perfect Cottage Getaway with Family and Friends

"We spent two wonderful weeks at Hawthorne Cottage. The first week was spent with our extended family - both sets of grandparents and our two children (ages 2 and 4). For the second week, the grandparents left and our friend's family moved in with their three children (ages 18 m, 3.5 and 6). The cottage was incredibly well-stocked (more so than our own home!) with endless dishes and glassware, good quality appliances, large capacity washer/dryer, great quality linens, comfortable beds, a hammock, loads of outdoor seating, a campfire pit and even two bbqs. The property was absolutely beautiful and very spacious for lots of time spent playing outside with the kids. There was even a horseshoe pit and a golf mat/net for practice. We did take the kids swimming at the cottage (water shoes suggested), but also spent a lot of time at close by North Beach which we found to be much less busy than Sandbanks. We went kayaking at the cottage as well (brought our own kayaks) which was wonderful and calm. The kids didn't mind being dragged around to the areas wineries as well - especially those equipped with trampolines (Norman Hardie, Broken Stone). Inside the cottage layout was perfect for two families as there are two sides (even two kitchens!) to keep things separated if desired. There was also a great craft room for rainy days where the kids enjoyed painting rocks and playing games. There was also wireless internet and a fully stocked media console with netflix, video games, etc. for evenings or when the weather wasn't particularly nice. This was much more a 'vacation home' than a 'cottage' as it was so well-equipped. On a side note, we had arranged for family photos to be taken in the area with our extended family during our stay. The property was so beautiful that we ended up staying right onsite at Hawthorne cottage with it's beautiful gardens and shoreline. We don't have enough good things to say about our stay and hope to be back again to make more great memories in Prince Edward County. Owner Tom was a pleasure to work with in coordinating our stay. We highly recommend Hawthorne for a vacation getaway with family or friends."

  • Amazing property with plenty of space and activities.

"Frank is a great guy who is genuine and laid-back. He allowed us to check in early and stay later than planned and helped us out with any thing to do with the house. It was a pleasure to have met him and stayed at his retreat. Definitely a great place for any occasion."

  • Terrific in Toronto

"We spent five nights in the Moroccan Suite and we're already looking forward to a return visit. Deb, the owner, has done a phenomenal job anticipating what a traveler might want, and she has provided absolutely everything a guest could need to feel at home. We arrived the night before a national holiday (Canada Day), and most of the shops were closed. Deb had stocked the refrigerator with provisions to get us started that first day with a delicious breakfast - juice, croissants, several kinds of fruit, butter, jam, milk. She also provides a coffee maker, kettle, tea pot, sugar, crocks of ground coffee and tea bags, a full set of dishes, cutlery, pots and pans... she's really made sure that nothing is lacking! Umbrellas, laundry detergent, hair dryer, books and DVDs, nice tissues all throughout the suite (none of those cheap ones that feel like sandpaper!).... all the little touches that are so important when you are away from home. We had a great first impression when we walked into the suite and saw how spacious it is: two full bathrooms (great water pressure!), two bedroom areas, a full-sized kitchen, spacious living room, cozy dining area, two flat screen TVs, and (yay!) loads of closets and drawers. She has decorated the suite beautifully and tastefully, with a gorgeous Moroccan theme. Staying here feels like staying in a deluxe hotel suite, but with the peacefulness and personal touches that a hotel lacks. It also feels nicer than a B&B, thanks to the privacy and the quiet. Even though we were right in the middle of a vibrant neighborhood, our suite was really quiet and we were not disturbed by outside noises. There is a lovely garden oasis with a table, chairs, and a patio umbrella where you can relax with a book or a cup of coffee, surrounded by beautiful geraniums, roses, hostas, a small fountain, and fairy lights. We also appreciated the great location and nice neighborhood. We parked our car when we arrived (parking is right behind the house) and we never needed it again during the rest of our stay. The bus stop is right outside, and we also walked to the subway station (about a 10-minute walk), from where it was very easy to navigate all around the Greater Toronto area. The high street filled with shops, groceries, and restaurants is just two blocks away. She provides local info on how to take public transit, as well as a map to the nearby shops and places to eat. All in all, a great place to stay in a great city!"
