  • Wonderful home, great location

"We really had a wonderful time here. The house has a ton of character, with exposed brick walls and old, dramatic staircases. There is air conditioning in the top floor bedrooms, but not on the bottom floor. This is not what one might call a luxury home, but it is very cozy. Even though Montreal is the city with the most restaurants per capita in the world, we never went out for dinner. It was just too enticing to pick up some charcuterie and wine or some vegetables for ratatouille and to laugh and talk and have fun on the terrace or at the dining room table. We loved it that there are no local channels on the TV. We did gather around to watch a movie a couple of nights, but there was no temptation to get caught up in any television programs. If you have a car or are walkers (we are the latter) the location is great. A few blocks to a grocer or a boulangerie, and not really far from anything you'll likely want to see in Montreal. We walked to downtown for the jazz festival and other activities a number of times. And to Mount Royal. And Mile End. Took the metro a little farther out (and the metro station is just a few short blocks) a couple of times. This was a great house, and it was a great vacation. And BTW, we did explore some great restaurants, just for lunch, not dinner, and there are a lot that will be a medium walk or a short drive. And micro-brasseries, too."

  • Great location, lots of character, awesome value.

"Sitting out on the back balcony with my adult kids and their friends, we had a great picture of life in Montreal, in an area where the houses are older and have some character. The apartment is spacious, has wood flooring, a great kitchen, cushions for the balcony chairs, a comfortable couch and a washer / dryer. I don't think we lacked for anything. The six seat, long wood dining table served well as a workspace with our laptops set up. The massive gas stove was a joy to use, wish I had one of these in my kitchen. It does give off a slight smell of gas but this is common for these beasts and nothing to worry about. The owner asks you to remove your shoes as there is an apartment below, not an issue for us, just being neighborly. The one major bonus for me, 1/2 block away at Beaubien, is a store called "Paradis de Bierre" with hundreds of Quebec craft beers and an owner who is happy to pick out some of the best ones for you"
