"There is much to enjoy at Serenata, and much to admire.
Fist the location: above Island Harbour in a completely serene site. No other view from the terrace than trees in the garden and the native vegetation beyond that, then the ocean: no other noise than the distant rollers on the reef, the rustling palms in the (sometimes strong) wind, and the turtle doves that wake you in the morning. The neighbours to the west were never there during our month's stay, and those to the east were scrupulously quiet.
You will grow to admire the layout of Serenata, the well-kept colourful garden that Wilson keeps watered. I particularly recommend a good look at the dry stone wall that encloses it, artfully done in the local manner of two-tone stones . One of the best in the island.
The inside is quite spare, almost ascetic in its immaculate white, built to catch and keep the light. The floor of the great room is white tile, and some original art (not too much; you will long remember the depiction of a children's model sailboat race by Wemes that greets you on the left-hand wall; see if you can find the original of the houses that she grouped above the children) takes advantage of those white walls. The living room furniture is rattan, comfortable and complete, down to the stand alone glass top dining table. One small table and a desk, three armchairs: no other furniture. Complete, but nothing superfluous.
Then there is the gallery/verandah. 60 feet of arches open to the North and to the inspection of birds in search of your breakfast crumbs (feeding them is probably a mistake, and expose all that lovely white paint to regrettable accidents). The floor is the same tile as the inside: extreme caution after rain: it becomes very slippery, and running toddlers risk serious injury. But you will not find a more serene spot than one of the four lounge chairs.
The property's maintenance is excellent. There is not one flaw in the vast amount of screening necessary for the enormous amount of windows (bay windows and windows along the entire gallery). There was not a mark on any of the walls, any of the off-white counters.
For places like Serenata, my wife and I are thankful.
The owners (Maddeline and Rocco are a phone call away (even in the middle of the night when, left in a completely dark island by a power interruption, we had to ask where the flashlight was), and prompt to answer questions and fix problems. They were careful not to intrude,, but very helpful nonetheless."
