  • Return to Suzie's Rock

"Sometimes you find a super-special place and wonder, if you return, whether the magic will still be there. On our second extended stay at Suzie’s Rock, it was not only everything we remembered…it was even better the second time around. It felt like coming home. This house has it all; a great location literally on the beach, lots of windows to take in the ocean views from every room, caring owners who keep it very well maintained, lovely décor, and it is situated in a safe upscale neighborhood perfect for walking, even alone. The house is beautiful, bright, shiny-clean and has everything you might need; comfy beds, nice linens, lots of towels, water cooler, gas grill and a kitchen well outfitted with pots, pans and gadgets. We enjoyed the addition of new patio furniture this year and a 2 person kayak. One of the highlights for us in staying at Treasure Cay is the weekly visits of Evelyn who arrives with homemade bread, conch chowder and other Bahamian delights to buy… but we especially enjoy her pies! In my review last year I called Suzie’s Rock “The Perfect Beach House” and it truly is. Janet and Susan, the owners, love their house and it shows. Thank you for sharing this special place with the rest of us. We can hardly wait to return."

  • Location Location Location

"Unimpeded views of Cruz Bay Harbor greeted us every morning on the spacious third outdoor lanai which served as dining, cocktail and sunset watching. Steps away from the "Drink" bar downstairs on the first floor made for easy access to twice weekly social happy hour. Beach bars, restaurants, shopping were all a short three block walk. St John Car Rentals provided our ride with a Jeep for the week. This allowed spontaneous beach hopping and snorkeling on both North and South beaches with ease. Highlights included Hansen Baech Low country shrimp boil on Sunday's, Saltpond beach was the best snorkeling reef, out in the middle of the bay, and Rams Head hike. The condo was exceptionally clean, well appointed and very comfortable and spacious. We wanted for nothing and considered the value a "10". We will plan to use Daniel's unit again next time we return to St John. Bob and Lis"

  • Sea Shell is a Jewel in the Crown

"We've now stayed at 4 places in Eleuthera, and looked at 5 or 6 more in person, and Sea Shell is one of our favorites. We weren't sure what Windermere Island would be like,--afraid it might feel cut off from Eleuthera proper, but that wasn't our experience at all. Yes, it was private, and we rarely saw other people on the beach, unlike at Twin Coves, for example, where we saw Spring Breakers as well as families and multiple couples. But it made going to Rock Sound (for the airport, groceries or the blue hole) & Tarpum Bay (for fresh fish) very easy. We especially loved the view from the decks and the living room. At night when we turned on the outside lights it was such a surprise to see the palm trees lit up. Dramatically beautiful! And...that beach! I loved walking the short but beautiful path to the beach. It was so alluring we didn't go many other places. The tides varied widely, so at low tide the beach was extremely wide. We had many excellent beach days, always with wind to keep the bugs away. A few days the wind was a bit much, but that meant sunning by the protected pool or going exploring. We went to Lighthouse Beach one day, and that was staggeringly beautiful. Not fair to compare Lighthouse Beach to anything else, but it is a commitment. Sea Shell's beach is a magnificent second. The house feels classic. First of all, it's clear that Sea Shell is lived in by real people. Things make sense, and it's not a generic rental with minimal attention to detail. The single-story design makes getting around very easy. Every room feels nearby but the bedroom layout affords lots of privacy. The master bedroom was extremely comfortable. Two of the bedrooms are accessed only from the outside, making them removed enough from the others for quiet, but not remote. We cooked up a storm in the kitchen, which, while not new, was well appointed with everything we needed. (This has not been the case everywhere!) There are at least 3 outside patio areas facing the Atlantic, plus the pool area, so it's easy to take advantage of outdoor living. Housekeeper Beryl generously waited for our arrival, later than we expected, and graciously answered any questions we had, and gave us the space we requested--we were happy to take care of ourselves. The owners were very easy to deal with--not a lot of fuss, and very straightforward and friendly. All in all, Sea Shell worked very well for us, and everyone in our group would be happy to return there!"
