  • QUINTESSENTIAL HOSPITALITY AT BAMBOO COTTAGE, ANTIGUA

"Before selecting Bamboo Cottage in Antigua, I read as many reviews as I could to help in my decision. Everything I read about the Cottage and host, Joanne Lighthizer is true! The Cottage is well equipped, clean and efficient. The grounds are impeccable and lush with a gorgeous tropical landscape. When my son and I arrived, Joanne had prepared a lovely tray of healthy dip and veggies, locally grown from her yard. She even had the fridge stocked with juices, wine, beer and water. I've rented many holiday apartments and homes, but never had these types of amenities offered upon arrival. I loved the swimming pool, as it gave me the opportunity to swim short laps to work of all the roti and conch fritters, delicious local eats. Sharing the pool with renters of the Bamboo House was never a problem. They wanted to sunbathe in the morning; and I preferred a late afternoon swim. Joanne was very helpful and kind in giving us suggestions on where to eat and shop; she even took us around Falmouth Harbour on our first day, and included us in an excursion to a Christmas craft fair near Jolly Harbour. When my husband arrived from sailing from Gibraltar to Antigua, he was amazed at how comfortable Bamboo Cottage was! Our friends who also sailed to Antigua for the April Classic Regatta loved the layout and environment of the Cottage as well. As many others have commented, Joanne (who lives on the property in the larger Bamboo House), was respectful of her guests' privacy, yet helpful and responsive when assistance was needed. I highly recommend this property and will have lasting memories of our Christmas in Antigua because of Joanne's extraordinary hospitality during our stay. Her rental rates are fair, given the amenities and good nature of the host. She is an honest business person, and extends that trust to her guests as well. Joanne will even assist you with car rental if you need a recommendation. I had no driving experience on the other side of the road, having driven in America all my life. Joanne offered to sit with me on my first ride, but because Falmouth and English Harbors' traffic are not as busy as St. John's, I was able to drive on my own, with my son coaching as navigator and "co-pilot". No need to think twice about Bamboo Cottage! You get a lot of value for your money!! Joanne, you are the Quintessential Hostess of Antigua!! Mahalo for making our Christmas in Antigua so special!!! • Overwhelming!

"Our family visit to Antigua started with a great driver JR who had plenty of space for 8 of us and our bags. When he pulled up in front of Villa Sull Oceano, we were pleased to see our 2 - 4 seater golf carts in the driveway that we had ordered in advance. We were already impressed when we entered the penninsula this home is situated on, with a number of very pleasant check-point people along the way. Where JR parked for us to exit the van, the first glance through the rod iron gates almost took your breath away!! We could see right through the entrance all the way through the center living area through to the ocean that would become our private beach for the next week. Tamara was there to greet us and welcome us as well as acquaint us with this unbelievable home. We were toured through the bedrooms each beautifully appointed complete with individual ensuites. Each of our 4 couples staked claim to the suite they thought would best suit them. The last bedroom on the tour was the master bedroom that is beach front and pool side with two sets of sliding doors to either exposure with a patio overlooking the sea. The master ensuite has double sinks and double rain-head showers, a large bath, even a bidet in the reading room. Each bedroom had individual Air Conditioning units and fans as well as flat-screens even though watching anything on TV was the furthest from any of our minds. The kitchen is massive with dual pull out fridge drawers, a wine fridge, and another beer/drink/water fridge across from it as well as a large SS regular type fridge with water and ice features. 3 sinks including the long trough style bar sink, and dual dishwashers too. All beautifully appointed with granite and ceramic, and cupboards and drawers a'plenty, it was a lot of fun cooking and working in this kitchen, and Chef Wakefield who cooked for us one night had everything conceivable to work with. The large dining table outside was great in accommodating our entire family, and the other tables and bar area served well to keep us all very comfortable as we enjoyed the pool and the good number of chaise lounges. The beach, although public might as well have been our own private beach, visited by only a rare walker or jogger on the way by. Noreen was a remarkable housekeeper!! We will be back for sure to Jolly Harbour and if our group remains the same size, we will definitely come back to Villa Sull Oceano. Memorable, unforgettable, and highly recommended."

  • Fantastic!

"Our holiday in Antigua could not have been better. The beautiful sea, sand and sun together with the the picturesque island, friendly people and to top it up, the amazing villa Kulala, made our 10 day holiday perfect. The location and design of the Villa is nothing short of perfect. It is walking distance from Long Bay which in our humble opinion is the best beach on the island (and we explored quite a few). The design of the Villa meant that our adult children and their partners were able to have their own privacy while the center of the villa was always convenient and enjoyable to spend time together. Of course the swimming pool and the private path to the sea, enabled enjoyable swimming and snorkeling in privacy. To use Arnie's famous words, "We will be back!" Thank you, The Kellermanns"

  • most beautiful house

"This is by far the most gorgeous house we have rented in the Caribbean and we have been renting in several islands for 15 years now. The view is incredible, with private access to the water and a small but truly refreshing infinity pool. The garden is superb as is the decor in the house. extremely comfortable. AC working well in both bedrooms, and there is always a breeze in the main living areas of the villa. we did not have bug issue except for one night. the kitchen and grill are paradise if you like to cook like we do. The negative review must be from some of the most unlucky people on earth! Christiane is a wonderful hostess. And, the villa has its own cistern, very convenient when the government decides to cut off water (happened twice), and its own generator which kicked in at least once during our stay. Do your grocery shopping at the Epicurean and avoid St John: for a stay just perfect and beautiful and quiet. We are repeating next year!"
