  • Great spot

"I stayed at this house for two weeks. I was joined by my brother for week one and my neighbors for week 2. All of us enjoyed the beautiful setting. It could not be nicer. Looking over the sound with the sun shining on it was a treat for the eyes. The house was neat and clean. We had plenty of room and privacy. I bone fished almost every day by walking north or south up and had opportunities at some very educated fish and caught several. My friends liked walking on the beach and trying to see how far out into the sound it was possible to wade at low tide. It is quite a way. Even though the kitchen was available we ate at Pete's Pub every day (about 25 minute drive). The fish dinners there are superb and I always enjoyed a couple Blasters if I wasn't driving that day. Judy and Rex, the caretakers who live a few doors up the street, were great. Especially after I locked the keys in the house! This is the real Bahamas, forget Nassau and Freeport, we met lots of nice people, both native and tourist. I would definitely stay there again."

  • 50th Birthday Celebration!!

"WOW! This was truly one of the best vacations we have ever had. We were 3 couples all reaching 50 and we considered chartering a yacht for the week but this turned out way better. The back porch is amazing and the ocean was like a postcard. We were all so glad we chose this house as it fit us perfectly. We rented a van to go into Marsh Harbour and though it was a good 20 minute drive... we planned excursions for every other day so as to allow plenty of time to chill. The beds were super comfy, the AC was great, the outdoor shower and hot tub were awesome.. and the whole experience was just a blessing! We chartered a large catamaran with "Bruce" at sailtheabacos.com. What a fantastic day of snorkeling and sightseeing. We also went to Hopetown one day and rented bikes. Fly fishing can't be beat as well. We topped off the week with an incredible, artful cuisine from chef Antonio of the Oasis restaurant. He and his staff came to the house for a meal we won't soon forget! Can't wait to come back to this paradise in Abaco. The Heacocks truly thought of everything to make this an unforgettable vacation destination!!"

  • Better in the Bahamas

"This was our second visit to Backroads and I would highly recommend it as a great getaway. We saw sea turtles in abundance, tiger rays, parrots and other tropical birds and fish and also a stingray at Cherokee village. A beautiful beach was a short kayak ride away, we cycled over to Petes Pub and gallery and toured the foundry which is all run on a generator. A highlight of the visit was a day trip to Hopetown by ferry where we rented bikes for 12$ for the day and explored the charming village, lighthouse and had a great lunch at the Abaco Inn. As an artist I appreciated the spectacular views in all directions and natural unspoiled beauty. As there is no light pollution the night skies are some of the best for star gazing. We are looking forward to a return visit."

  • Beautiful, quiet beachfront vacation.

"We can't wait to return to the Captain's Nest in Cherokee. The gorgeous flats, beautiful sunsets, and bone fishing right out the front door. The people of Cherokee are surely the kindest and most helpful that we have met in our many travels throughout the Bahamas. The remodeled airport at Marsh Harbor is a stunning improvement. Upon arrival all basic provisions can be obtained at Maxwell's supermarket. The little "Island Bakery" is our favorite for coconut bread which makes the best French toast in the world, but don't forget the Johnnycake and sticky buns. Also our best recent find is the Fish House or "Skagg retail and wholesale seafood store" in Marsh Harbor ask locals for directions. They have all types of local fish as well as lobster and stone crab. There is packaged lobster for the return trip home. Jaime's Place in Marsh Harbor has the best cracked conch in the area. Glenn is a perfect host for your adventure at the Captain's Nest and has provided a lovely 2 bedroom, spotless accommodation with a small boat to truly explore Cherokee Sound. Night life is limited, but always includes our evening sunset walk on Long Dock with our favorite beverage. I have caught bonefish beside and off of Long Dock and have seen multiple big permit cruising along the dock in the evening, no takers yet. Many thanks to Glenn for sharing his wonderful beachfront home with us. We will return as soon as possible. Sincerely, Randy and Robyn R."
