  • Simply the Best...

"My girlfriend and I just returned from Off the Reef. It was a glorious time! The view itself makes the price of a night worth it, even if it were twice the price. The pictures online DO NOT LIE! It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Allan and Carolyn have spared no expense to make this little bundle of paradise functional and fascinating. Bring a cooler and chairs if you want to, but you'll never need them. The only things we actually needed were our sunglasses and sunscreen. (And who doesn't bring those?) Be very specific with any car rental company you deal with. The roads in Eleuthera are terrible and there is no middle line on Queens Highway (except for spots in southern Eleuthera). If you drive on the right at home, request a car with left-hand operation. It's more than a little sketchy driving on both the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car. Also, if you're adventurous (like us) you'll want to visit some of the other beaches that you'll undoubtedly read about. Make sure you have 4-wheel or All-Wheel Drive!!! Lighthouse Beach is a pretty place, but it's a tough road to get there and God-forbid if you get stuck in the sand or get a flat! I'd venture to say that heading down to The Market at Rock Sound and buying four days worth of groceries and dining at Tippy's and 1648 should suffice a couple for the week. Be prepared, though, groceries, food and drink are expensive on the island. Take your snorkel gear! I saw about 15 varieties of fish and a ray while just "off the reef". I only got out as far as the fourth rock formation and the sealife was amazing! If you feel the need to get some fresh conch for fritters/rangoon, I'd recommend heading down to Bannermantown past the turnoff to Lighthouse Beach. There are hundreds of tidepools with living sealife. We didn't take advantage of it, though. My gal detests killing things and I kind of agree. So, that's that! Off the Reef is the place to be on Eleuthera for a couple. Everything you need, nothing that you don't. Carolyn is great about correspondence, so messaging is almost instantaneous. We love her! Missing OTR already... Hope to be back some time soon!"

  • Heaven on Eleuthera

"We had two wonderful weeks at Aqua Vista in early December. The house and its surroundings exceeded our expectations. The living room furniture, beds and kitchen table/chairs were very comfortable. The house was tastefully decorated and the kitchen was more than adequately appointed with everything one needs and then some. It was a bonus to have beach towels, chairs, snorkeling equipment and some coolers with ice packs, which we took full advantage of. The ocean view is spectacular and so were the sunrises. This was our second time to Eleuthera but our first time on North Palmetto Point, and we loved the access it gave us to wonderful bars and restaurants. A little unknown gem right up the road was Uniques. We had two delicious dinners there. We enjoyed Tippy's, Rainbow Inn and the Sky Beach Club. Also ate at 1648 Bar and Grille which was fabulous! By far, our best dinner out and exceeded our budget. A must is the Governor's Harbour fish fry on Friday night. Well worth it! The welcome gift was also very much appreciated. It was a joy to work with Sue; she was very pleasant and accommodating. Do not visit the island until you have purchased The Beach Book, ultimate guide to all of Eleuthera's beaches. Well worth our money and it enhanced our driving adventures to remote beaches. When we return to Eleuthera, we'll for sure stay at Aqua Vista." Thank you, Sal and Lisa."

  • Fulfillment of a Quest!

"We stayed at Culmer Cottage 6 days/nights and enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing time in and around Tarpum Bay. The purpose of this trip was to re-visit one part of our honeymoon trip of 45 years ago! We found the village had changed some, but not completely; it still exudes the authentic culture of the Bahamian people, who are very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed walking around Tarpum Bay, talking with the locals, listening to the "fun and games" by the children outside even after dark. Where can you hear that anymore? That's something back in the 50s! Living in Culmer Cottage during this time was just as comfortable as it could be, with a full kitchen, interesting books to peruse, a patio to enjoy the view of the Bay. We were well taken care of with Kervin and Brenda, the caretakers, and they're adorable grandchildren. When we finally decided to visit Tarpum Bay, Lynn, the owner of the house, was an A+ Helper! She answered all our questions especially about travel. The communication between us was fairly often, either by email or phone, as we are not accomplished long-distance travelers and a little nervous about the flights. But she effectively put our minds at ease. We did not rent a car because neither my husband nor I felt comfortable driving on the "wrong side of the road"!! Even though we missed out on some great adventures because of that decision, our purpose for coming to Tarpum Bay was fulfilled, including a few quiet adventures anyway! So whatever your reason for reading this VRBO website, 'Experience Real Eleuthera', know that you're on the right path for a warm-weather vacation specially tailored for you. You won't be disappointed."

  • Perfect as always!!!

"This year was our fifth straight year visiting Eleuthera and staying at Finiterre. We absolutely LOVE our adventures exploring the island, and often times can't decide where to go each day because of the many beautiful beaches, but we never think twice about where we stay each year...FINITERRE! We consider the owner, Jeri, our friend at this point, if only by email, but still nothing but a pleasure to communicate with. Andrew and Reta, the caretakers, have become so dear to our hearts as well. They make us feel so welcome each year and check on us several times throughout our stay. Finiterre is looking more beautiful than ever! Every year when we return, we see upgrades and special touches that make the home even more perfect than the year before. We can't recommend Finiterre enough! It has every amenity one could want and maybe, THE most spectacular view from the deck of any home on the island. Thank you Jeri, Andrew and Reta for yet another perfect vacation!!!"
