  • A great destination for a large group and adventurous souls!

"A spacious home which had the perfect floor plan for a large group. The bedrooms lined up on the left hand side of the large hallway, and the living areas separated by this hallway to an open kitchen,/living area. It is not fancy(a bit shabby in a couple bedrooms), but has enough staple, decent appliances and sturdy household items to be functional--we found the ice-maker especially convenient! The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The living areas were furnished with a generous amount of seating, although the cushions are a bit tired--we flipped and fluffed and it worked. A newly remodeled bathroom made the 1/2 bath look shabby. Outdoor living areas was beautiful, just a few steps to the water, via steep concrete steps, and a sandy area at which we enjoyed the 2 beach chairs provided (could use a few more chairs). The caretaker was contacted in order to get the use of the chairs locked in the basement, and the 4 kayaks promised- the most fun adventure (besides the prop plane ride from Nassau) I had! There were also 2 pedal bikes, but they both had flat tires and there's nowhere to go anyway. The kitchen had a smell of mouse urine and some droppings in the cabinets & numerous wasp nests outside(one of the kids got stung)--there was only an empty bottle of wasp spray under the sink, however, and the caretaker, although helpful in informing us the telephone was broken (it was fixed on "Island time" 4 days later), and able to help us figure out the fan/light configuration and get us batteries for the empty remote-controls, was informed of the nests, did not attempt to treat them during the duration of our stay. Screened room was a great place to relax on the swinging love-seat. The island: no street signs, stores are unmarked with indiscriminate hours of operation, numerous restaurants and local watering holes where the drinks are generously strong, Island prices ($$$). we brought and cooked our own meals 90% of the time--everything but fresh fruit and veg are ok to bring through customs. 4-wheel drive down a road to a remote beach to see a wreck, &the beach was strewn with plastic debris and trash burns on a daily basis. gems: Tippy's bar, French Leave restaurant. Talk to the locals at the roadside tiki hut bars, great way to learn tips. Bug spray: no-see-ums will get you! Best bread: Island farm, a short ride south. $5 water taxi to Harbor Island, $50 golf cart/day, it's a fun adventure. visit the blue holes, and lighthouse beach"

  • Simply the Best...

"My girlfriend and I just returned from Off the Reef. It was a glorious time! The view itself makes the price of a night worth it, even if it were twice the price. The pictures online DO NOT LIE! It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Allan and Carolyn have spared no expense to make this little bundle of paradise functional and fascinating. Bring a cooler and chairs if you want to, but you'll never need them. The only things we actually needed were our sunglasses and sunscreen. (And who doesn't bring those?) Be very specific with any car rental company you deal with. The roads in Eleuthera are terrible and there is no middle line on Queens Highway (except for spots in southern Eleuthera). If you drive on the right at home, request a car with left-hand operation. It's more than a little sketchy driving on both the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car. Also, if you're adventurous (like us) you'll want to visit some of the other beaches that you'll undoubtedly read about. Make sure you have 4-wheel or All-Wheel Drive!!! Lighthouse Beach is a pretty place, but it's a tough road to get there and God-forbid if you get stuck in the sand or get a flat! I'd venture to say that heading down to The Market at Rock Sound and buying four days worth of groceries and dining at Tippy's and 1648 should suffice a couple for the week. Be prepared, though, groceries, food and drink are expensive on the island. Take your snorkel gear! I saw about 15 varieties of fish and a ray while just "off the reef". I only got out as far as the fourth rock formation and the sealife was amazing! If you feel the need to get some fresh conch for fritters/rangoon, I'd recommend heading down to Bannermantown past the turnoff to Lighthouse Beach. There are hundreds of tidepools with living sealife. We didn't take advantage of it, though. My gal detests killing things and I kind of agree. So, that's that! Off the Reef is the place to be on Eleuthera for a couple. Everything you need, nothing that you don't. Carolyn is great about correspondence, so messaging is almost instantaneous. We love her! Missing OTR already... Hope to be back some time soon!"

  • PARADISE!!!

"My husband and I spent 9 days at Beside the Pointe and it was absolute paradise. The cottage exceeded our expectations and the owner takes excellent care of the house and the property. The cottage was very clean and looked like it was brand new. The gardens were spectacular with papayas, mangos, bananas, pineapples and beautiful flowers everywhere. The owner was so nice and helpful in all aspects of planning our trip and he has really thought of everything. He provided snorkeling gear, kayaks, a fishing spear, fish traps and even a cell phone. We loved the secluded outdoor shower with a view of the Caribbean. The screened in porch was an excellent spot to relax and read after a day of playing. The snorkeling at the Pointe was unbelievable and my husband caught fish for dinner almost every night. We never saw another person in the bay. The location and seclusion of the cottage and the spectacular views of the bay make me wish I was still there. We will definitely stay here again!"

  • What a wonderful stay we had at the House on Spanish Wells! Thank you Tyson and April!

"We loved our welcoming lobster dinner and having use of a golf cart, kayaks, paddle board, and 2 bicycles completed our perfect stay. Tyson also took us snorkeling and exploring in his boat for a day. The house is steps away from a gorgeous beach. A great vacation for sure!"
